(Warrensburg) Racing fans were treated to another night of hot weather and sizzling racing action at Central Missouri Speedway on the smooth tacky surface for Budweiser Race Night. Modified driver Aaron Marrant from Richmond drove his Scott Racing, Full Throttle Raceworks machine to the checkers for the weekly $1000 feature win in the Mighty Modified division. Limited Late Model driver, Brett Rollert is on a roll with his sixth feature win of the season while he leads the points chase. Chris “Bubba” Akers from Higginsville drove his B- Modified machine into first place in the Contingency Connection feature as he crossed the finish line to take the checkers for his first feature win of the season. The next feature was another hard earned victory with Nathan Himes driving his 11R Street Stock to the checkered flag for his second feature victory this season. The 305/360 Sprints were a treat to watch again this week with the young gun Zack Goulden finishing first this week with his second feature in a row at the CMS high banks.

Limited Late Model heat races were packed with great action around the track again with Brett Rollert and Kevin Coyne taking the heat race checkers which determined the starting row for the feature event. Coyne drove out hard to take an early lead over Rollert for the feature race with Danny Barker and Owen Evinger driving just behind them attempting to push into third. Unfortunately for Evinger he flew over turn one landed on all four tires and had to leave the track with mechanical problems along with Derek Nevels. Rollert then took over for the remainder of the race and never looked back with the racing action picking up behind him. Then Barker and Coyne were fighting for second place along with Shawn Williams who started in the second row. Barker and Williams drove side by side for several laps until Williams passed him taking third place. Finally, Williams battled with Coyne for second place with Coyne holding the high line and Williams down low for several laps. Williams passed Coyne on lap ten, but Coyne kept a close eye and eventually worked his way into a thrilling second place finish past Williams again on lap thirteen. CMS welcomed a new driver, Zack Green from Higginsville into the Limited Late Model class, but he had engine problems during the heat races and could not start the feature.

The 305 Sprints were back in action along with a 360 Sprint to please the crowd as the young guns continue to keep the crowd cheering their favorites and once again it was a battle of the young teenagers as Cristi Hoenshell grabbed heat race number one and Zack Goulden taking the checkers on heat race two. Goulden and Hoenshell started up front for the main event with Alumbaugh diving into the low side of turn two right behind Goulden on the first lap. Goulden quickly shot out front to go ahead of the field with the battle between Alumabugh and Josh Fisher in a tough race maneuvering into second and third place while Goulden walked away from the field. With Goulden in the solid lead for several laps a yellow flag from the 1X Sprint of Brad Ryun, brought the entire field back to Goulden on lap seven. Josh Fisher had moved his way forward from a second row start just behind Goulden on the re-start, but Goulden held on strong for his second feature win in a row with Fisher behind with a second place after winning a local 305 Sprint feature on Friday night. Alumbaugh was in third with a nice run into fourth by Tom McGarry after battling with Hoenshell. Chad Tye was in fifth and Michael Brown, the 2005 Sprint Points Champion at CMS finished in sixth. Great racing the last few weeks from the Sprint class and we hope they continue challenge each other with a solid class of smooth racing competitors.

The Street Stock feature was another great display of driving from the front of the field with three strong drivers battling for the lead. The popular crowd favorite, Tammy Korff with Chad Eickleberry led the field to the green flag start. Korff held the early lead with Nathan Himes working his way up front to pass Eickleberry and Korff by lap three to take the lead. Himes then never let the lead out of his hands. Brian Johnson started picking off drivers and eventually passed Eickleberry on lap eight for third place. He didn’t stop and finally passed Korff for second and held on to second place for the rest of the race for his best finish of the year. Lap ten was tough on several cars including Bill O’Bryan who spun and hit the turn two light pole and had to leave the track along with several drivers having mechanical problems including Robin Rufener and Darren Shore. Finally, Korff held on for a tough fought third place finish with Wayne Harper attempting to pass her on the final lap. The two got together on the front straight, but Korff was just in front of Harper for third. Eickleberry finished in what he thought was fifth place, but later found was actually fourth when Harper was disqualified during the post race technical inspection. Donnie Danner moved into fifth place and John Ebert finished a solid sixth. Many of the front runners in points were not present tonight and the point’s leader Jimmy Ngo and second in points, Bobby Raybourn finished back in the pack in ninth and tenth place so the Street Stock race will tighten up.

The B-Modified main event feature produced a first time feature win at CMS for Chris “Bubba” Akers when he drove his B-Modified from the front row into victory lane. Akers started the feature from the second row, but received numerous challenges from point’s leader, Tony Nelson. Nelson took the lead on lap two after Akers spins in turn two and Akers just manages to hold on to the car in second place. Meanwhile, a new B- Modified driver to CMS, Joshua Jacobs from Shawnee, KS starts to work his way up into third place with Mark Evinger immediately behind him. Then on lap five the leaders swap again with Akers passing Nelson after he goes a little high with Akers down low. Akers held on to the lead for the remainder of the race for his first feature of the year. Rob Littrell ran a nice race into third place after bending the car frame with a first lap wreck with Bob Dummit and Josh Stevens. The Mighty Modified heat races were smooth and packed with hot racing action with three different leaders during the feature event on a hot evening. Heat races winners were fan favorite drivers including Dennis Walrath, Aaron Marrant and Joe Bradshaw. Walrath lead the field of nineteen hungry Mighty Modifieds into turns one and two to start the feature event. Marrant and Joe Bradshaw were battling on the high and low side just behind the early leading Walrath. Marrant quickly drove his car into second place and was pressured by Bradshaw when he then passed Marrant for second early in the race. On the lap eight re-start, Bradshaw worked the high side for the lead with Walrath holding his line down low into second. Marrant stayed patient and worked the entire race and finally passed Bradshaw by lap sixteen after several laps of clean side by side racing on the smooth tacky track. Marrant then stayed in the lead for the remaining laps for his second feature win of the year with Bradshaw in a close second and Walrath in third. Sonny Wood ran his best modified race of the year with a solid fourth place finish and Kyle Westerhold moved from an eighth row start to a great finish in fifth. Jake Richards used the 28S Shawn Burns car to keep competitive in the tight Mighty Modified points race. Jimmy Dowell also drove the 79 Jasper owned machine to keep competitive as well. Unfortunately, Dave Meyer, Richard Layne, Doug Walrath and Jason Sivils encountered various mechanical problems and had to leave the track for the night.
