Bart Hartman wins Night #2 of World of Outlaw Late Model action at Volusia in front of several Nextel Cup stars!!!
By Terry Young

54 cars again graced the Volusia Speedway Park on a beautifully prepared surface and when the fans left I assure you there was not one that was dissapointed!

Rick Eckert turned in the fast qualifying lap of the evening.

The heat races were action packed and racy with Eckert claiming the first heat over Greg Johnson, Rob Blair and Nextel Cup veteran Ken Schrader.

Second heat action was topped by R.J. conley taking the checkers ahead of Clint Smith, Mike Balzano and Darrel Lanigan.

Third heat honors went to Scott Bloomquist over Shannon Babb, Bart Hartman and Terry English.

The fourth and final heat was topped by Dale McDowell over previous nights winner Steve Francis, Kenny Pettyjohn and Dan Schlieper.

The consi races would transfer Jackie Boggs, Chub Frank and Wendell Wallace from the first with Mr. Smooth Billy Moyer, Anthony Rushing and Chuck Harper transferring from the second.

With Rick Aukland and Tim McCreadie added as provisional starters the field was set with 24 entires.

The dash to determine the order of the first 4 rows was captured by Franics over Bloomquist, McDowell, Conley, Smith, Eckert, Johnson and Babb.

When the green would fall on the A-main it appeared that Dale McDowell was going to be the man to beat as he jumped out to claim an early lead. While McDowell, Bloomquist and Francis battled in the early laps Bart Hartman who started 11th was mounting a charge to the front of the pack. Likewise, provisional starter Rick Aukland was working to the front as was Chub Frank.
With passing and challenges occuring all over the track, Bart Hartman finally worked his way to the point and pulled off the pass of McDowell in turns 3 and 4. Bloomquist would also work past McDowell on the high side and was applying pressure to Hartman, but to no avail.

When the checkers flew it was all The Bartman earning a trip to the hallowed ground known as VSP Victory Lane. Following Hartman was Bloomquist, McDowell, Francis, Blair, Eckert, Aukland, frank, Aukland, English and Schliepr to complete the top 10.

In the house tonight in addition to all of the World of Outlaw Late Model Series Dirty Dozen and other stars was several Nextel Cup competitors which included Bill Elliott, Mark Martin, Ken Schrader competing in his late model and Tony Stewart competing in a 360 sprint car. Also seen walking the pit area was retired Nascar Winston Cup seasoned veteran Ernie Irvan and ther Legendary Red Farmer!

Looks like the action at the Volusia Speedway Park brought out some of the stars from the Daytona area, who wanted to check out the action. And, I must say they picked a great night to do it as the action was intense lap after lap, with great weather and the entire late model show being complete by 10:30!

Hats off to the entire Boundless crew who are improving with each nights passing!

The World of Outlaw late models will take a break in action and enjoy a night off tomrrow night before returning to the Volusia Speedway Park on Friday night for Round 3 of the 2004 rendition of WINTERNATIONALS!

Remember, if you want to see the most accomplished and well known late model stars in Florida this month....... there is only one place to go and that is VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARK.

See ya in Victory Lane!
