MAGNOLIA, MS – July 5, 2007 – Recent heavy rain and a dire forecast for the coming days has forced the postponement of this weekend’s (July 6-7) inaugural World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Freedom 100’ at Pike County Speedway.

WoO LMS and Pike County Speedway officials made the decision on Thursday morning after reviewing the track’s already water-logged grounds and consulting weather forecasts for the weekend.

A new date for the two-day, $20,000-to-win ‘Freedom 100’ spectacular has not yet been determined, but WoO LMS and Pike County officials are working to find a suitable weekend to run the event in 2007. An announcement will be made in the near future.

“We hate to make this decision, but we really have no other choice,” said Pike County Speedway owner J.F. Gasquet, who scheduled the blockbuster WoO LMS weekend in hopes of putting his growing three-eighths-mile oval on the national dirt Late Model map. “We’ve already had a huge amount of rain at the track over the past few days, and with the weather forecasts for the weekend showing more coming it just doesn’t seem sensible to bring all the fans and race teams down to southern Mississippi this weekend.”

Preparing a racetrack surface and pit area that has been turned into a virtual quagmire by this week’s heavy rain would also be a huge challenge, said Gasquet.

“We can’t even get a motor grader on the racetrack to try scraping the top (layer of mud) off,” noted Gasquet. “We want the racers to have a great racetrack when they come here for the ‘Freedom 100,’ and we’d just be fighting a frustrating battle to do that under these conditions.

“We can’t wait until the last minute to make a (postponement) decision with a big show like this because we have so many people coming from great distances, so we came to a consensus with the World of Outlaws officials to try again on another date and hope for better weather.”

With the postponement, the WoO LMS will now be idle until embarking on a three-race weekend July 20-22. The tour will visit Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica , Va. (Fri., July 20), Hagerstown ( Md. ) Speedway (Sat., July 21) and Eriez Speedway in Hammett , Pa. (Sun., July 22).
