I would like to see anyone who knows to add any history that they may know about how the classes changed over the years so this can all be added to the Highland website.

If remember correctly somewhere around the years of 95 - 97. Wasnt Gerald Landolt the bomber champion ?

Thanks inTENSE, I missed a line. I went back and edited it. Let me know if there are any more mistakes. Maverick, most of Gerald Landolt's success was at Greenville in 1995. He came in second in points to Mike Harrison that year but he did win a lot of races.

I have a question...what was the "cadet class?"

it would be cool if you add some pictures with this...its a great idea. I know Fireball has some antique pics...

Thanks glbert. I just went to a '97 program from Highland. It shows Gerald #3 in points for '96.
thanks :)

I wonder how many time Klitzing or his car finished 2nd or 3rd. Seems like his cars are always in the top 5.

If I rember correctly, Terry Krump has the track record for qualifying sportsman.

I would have also bet some bucks that Voight had a championship in Highland.

The cadet class was a beginner class, basically 2bbl modifieds. It had some strange rules, If you won 2 features in a row you had to move up to regular modifieds, and then it was changed to 5 and then they dropped the rule all together. It seems Dennis Sellers was winning all of the time. And I am not bashing Dennis in any way shape or for, Just critisizing SARA at the time. That is how Dennis Sellers , Rick Kloos, Gary Gerstner, and many others got their start by running old mods. Dennis' first car was the Flyin' Deuce that John Copple was track champion with in 1970.

thanks for the explanation...so now what was the "B class?"

man, its crazy to remember back when Rick and Dennis were running...

How old was Sellers when he started and who all knows the ages of all the youngest drivers dated back from the start of Highland?

My dad was 15 in 1971, his first year racing in the cadet class. He won the championship that year, & if I recall stories from Grandpa right, they would not let him run that car in the cadet class after that year. They made him move up to the 'A' class.

inTense is right about making him move up in 1972. Kloos was like 15 or so, same as Dennis when they started racing
The B class was basically the same as the cadets except you could have raced before, where the cadets were beginners. And If I remember correctly the B mods were the old coupes and such. And the A mods were the "newer" body styles such as Chevy Vegas and Camaros, Ford Pintos, and Nash Metropolitans. Lots of nice memories of the good old days.

Hey Mav, that's neat that you brought that up about Gerald. He actually brought out a Modified late this year, he didn't have much success, but he still has a lot of bugs to work out.

This list was put together by looking up the "history" in an old SARA souvneir program. It not only had pictures of the current racers, it had a section for each class listing "past champions." It also came from current banquet programs, so we are confident this information is correct as listed.

ScoreThis has agreed to put this on Highland's website.

I've sent her and Sue Zobrist a copy of the books where the information has come from so they can feel confident they have it accurate and not just guess work.

I just realized I did not copy the Street Stock list off the old thread ... but I did include it in the books that were sent.

Yea i have talked to Kenny a few times since Gerald has gotten the Mod. I seen him run it the last time he was at Greenville with it. Its a big change going to a mod. I know ! I bought my first bomber from kenny in 1996 so I have known all the guys for quite awhile.

hey thats cool. I have probably seen yea around the garage before then.

" This car look familiar to you " after i got it from Kenny it was all Black/Gold/#2. As a matter of fact I bought Kenny's first metric car from him also. ( White Monte with the flames ) The malibu he raced last at Highland he bought from me. now aint that crazy ??
