i was tould that higland wasa dropping the sportsmens and running crates. Is that True

If they brought in the crates, I think they would have to come up with some type of rotation where each week one class would take the week off. I have seen a couple of tracks in Colorado do that. I guess it would have it's good points and it's bad ones. JMO.

Probably won't happen. But if it did it would have my approval. Too many classes now, I never really understood why the sportsman class was staarted anyhow???

Nice to offer everyone a chance to race. I like the rotation idea, will give the class in rotation a chance to travel and still get home track points. JMO

I actually like the rotation idea.

I would be in favor of Highland dropping Sportsman simply to get all of the local sportsman running on the same set of rules (Allied). The Sportsman at I-55 Raceway are awesome. Just imagine some of those good Highland Sportsman showing up there every week. Wow! As it is right now, I'd say I-55 has the best Sportsman class in the country

Crates are an ever growing class. I think they should have a place to race here on Saturdays.

I doubt that guys that live in highland would make the haul to pevely, they barely get enough money to to race on locally.I know they aren`t in it to make money but if you go to pevely it would raise the costs and not be practical for many.

I have not heard that Highland is considering getting rid of sportsmen. In my opinion that would be terrible! Also just my opinion, I think the sportsmen class is the most competitive class there is at Highland.

I know the Eilers racing team kind of dominated that class, especially if you just look at the stats and have not been there to see some of the shows these guys put on. There are quite a few cars that can win in that class on any given night.

Jmcgrew you dont have a bad point that it would be good to see all of these guys running under the same set of rules and together all the time but I don't see a lot of the teams that run at Highland on a weekly basis making the trip to I-55 every week. Good thought tho.

Once again all just my opinion.

What does a competitive Sportsman cost to put on the track? Not wanting to start a big debate or anything just never been involved with the Sportsman. By competitive I mean able to run in the top 5 most anywhere you go?

Thanks

I-55 is probably the only Saturday night track that could reasonably pick up the Crate Late Models. Highland having the curfew issue to deal with and I-55 only running 4 classes I would think they are better suited to pick them up once or twice a month. JMO

That is a completely false statement. You could buy a turnkey crate for alot less than what the top notch sportsman guys have in the motor. 55's last a long time, and your running pump gas. Lenny you need to sell some stuff, get you a used 602 for $2000 or so and let er rip.

I'd ask Russel Eilers, seems he's up front wherever he runs.

ya,well you pull a stunt like me and the 20 car did a few weeks ago and its new chassis time,my junk was at least 6 or 7 feet airborn, hit the wall while in flight and landed like a rock,,after a bit of tlc, i started 19th and ran 12th,,jimmy came back the next week and ran in the top 5,,GAUUN-TEE ya if theywere crate cars both would be trashed...you mention the eilers,,i fermly belive the set up has more to do with their running up front than the amount of $$$ they have in their motors....

ya Jimmy's car was screwed up that night. I was part of his pit crew that night and his car wastrashed but he got it back together.

crates

CRATE LATEMODELS ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bash me if you want I don't give a F**** they are the worst thing to hit highland speedway!! Took 45 min. to run one feature rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Russels car is 9 years old and probably cost around 10k for the roller. There is no doubt in my mind you could build a new sportsman for any where between 6500 to 13k depending on what you already have and if you buy everything new. There are to many variables to compare the two. What does it take to win in a crate? What does it take to win in a Sportsman? Don't tell me what it takes to be an also ran because I don't go out there to finish second. How much does it cost to fix the Crate when you crash it? The Sportsman? Can you go to the junk yard and get spindles, control arms and steering components? Sure your d55 may last all year but how much does it cost when somebody takes out your left front tire and wheel on your crate compared to a sportsman? How much is a rack? Just a few of the questions you need to ask.
