Highland Speedway 2009

this is another issue that u will make half mad and half wont care.I like both classes supers and crates.I do believe crate will get better car count. On the other hand if these tracks keep dropping supers the whole class will die as far as the weekly racers concern.I say keep the supers drop the hornets becaue them cars are death traps anyway and add crates.I no this post willl make most of the hornet drivers mad but i wouldnt let any of my kids drive a racecar that u cant weld the cage to the frame.jmo

Highland

if highland dropped the super latemodels for crates that would be crazy cause the fan base would drop and the car count i thank the super latemodels just put a better show then the crates any way:)

Do you have any idea how much money the track makes with the hornet division? And you honestly think they can average 20+ crates? I don't think so! It would be in Highland's best interest to keep everything the way it is. I think adding another class, would risk them getting their show in on a regular basis with their 11:00 P.M. curfew.

You know nothing about the Hornet class!:( JMO

Droping the hornets

I say keep the supers drop the hornets because them cars are death traps anyway and add crates.
The hornet cars bring in the most cars just about every night. We were getting 23 to 26 cars a night. So if you drop the hornets you will lose a lot of money for the track.

i understand they bring in alot of cars.lets say one of u gets flipped on ur side and a car has no time to slow down and hits the underside of ur floor board. These cars have no protection.A guy in flordia was alomost killed because of this.its more of a safety thing then a money thing for me.Now if u hornet guys were allowed to put a x underneath and tie into the roll cage that would be alot safer for the drivers. Most ppl dnt think bout this problem because it hasnt happen here yet. let alone some of these cars have the stock fuel cell in it.now thats really unsafe no matter where it is located on the car.My friend was racing his in NC and it had stock fuel cell in it yet a car shoved him into a coner of a wall and his gas tank expoled by the time he could get out he was done burned over 60% of his body. And Shaw i do no alot bout these cars.thats y i think they can be made safer

I build my own cars and I’m confident in the safety of them. There is factory bracing under the seat that runs from one side to the other and my cages are built on heavy square tubing that runs from front to rear along the pinch weld inside the car. As for the fuel tank there is a skid plate over it and I keep no more than (2) gallons of fuel in the tank to reduce the size of a fire if one would happen. Yes, I do understand that some of the Hornet cars out there could be safer but I found some unsafe fire hazards on my Late Model that I had to change after purchasing it. Ultimately, whether it’s a Late Model or a Hornet people assume certain risks every time they get into any racecar.

Like them or not, the 4 cyl division isn't going anywhere. Most tracks have them and they have grown so much that there a several high dollar races around for them. I think there will be more next year and in the future.

Just because these cars are ment to be a cheap affordable way to go race, doesn't mean racers should take short cuts when it comes to safety. I have seen hornets that shouldn't be allowed to race because of lack of quality cage. But, I have seen some really nice hornet cars that had the time and quality put in them and were very well constructed.

I blame the tech at tracks if a unsafe car is allowed out there!

I agree 100%

I don;t see why anyone needs ti blame any class...They are all equally entertaining..JMO but any class is just as safe as the driver makes their car...I flipped my hornet twice last year and I was Safe as I made my car...I walked away with no sratches and raced it even more.... Sorry but my safety and the other drivers on the track around me are my concern. Any classes can have trouble...I believe all the racers have the same concern, give or take a few.. but I know that RRMOTORSPORTS cars,HOrner CArs, SHaw cars, Dennison/Hamblin, and a few other teams out there take pride in their cars and safty..So I wouldn't pin point out any class...Yes it would be awsome to have all the classes in one night but hey we can't all have what we want....Highland preformed awsome every year with the classes that it has, and have the fan base for each class, so to lose one class would be a not so good move.JMO. Maybe add another class if they could get more time on the cerfew... sorry had to put my 2 cents in cause i hate see anyone complain on the classes everyone is gonna have their own opinion on it so that was mine....

Even though I don't like the hornets Highland would be stupid to get rid of them. As the previous post said they get to roughly 25 cars a night and each car has at least 2-3 guys that come with them. So say on average 1 driver and 2 crew men, thats $30 from the driver and $50 from two crew members times 25, and they pay $100 to win and $25 to start. That's just an easy way to make $$$$$$$$$ for the track. Bottom line those things aren't going anywhere.

any idea when they will have a rules/information meeting? or did i miss that?

I would be interested in this as well. Mainly because I went to Flora last year based on the idea my car was illegal for Highland. I don't want to drive all the way to Flora or Mt. Vernon if I am only 20 min from the track. I would like to share my opinions for next year.

More than likely they wont have a time for a rules meeting till after the 2008 Banquet i will let you know if they don't post it first .

I think they will have it by the class like hornets Bombers one night or before the sportsman and the rest

well everyone is talking about dropping a class, drop the mods, because thay can race anywhere. Or maybe do like a track did years ago, run late models, crates, mods, hornets one week, then following week crates, mods, hornets and street stock, and following week lates, crates, street stock, hornets, that way the off week the cars can race other tracks. Just a thought that you might consider.

Why change anything at Highland? All classes had decent car counts. There were over 100 cars in the pits on most nights. Only thing I want is a Saturday date for a Challenge Series race.

well then you already have them dropping a class that has been at highland a long time and has a good car count (Sportsman were in your thought do they fit in )
