Highland Speedway 2013 Racing Season Announcements

After careful consideration and thought, Highland Speedway has decided to make some changes to the nightly classes that we run at the speedway for the 2013 racing season. The goal of Highland Speedway is to provide the fans and competitors exciting racing action. We all know that a low car count does not help contribute to exciting racing action. We greatly appreciate all the drivers, teams, and fans that have supported the Highland Speedway for the last 51 years. It is because of people like you we have had great racing and we are looking forward more great racing for the next 50+ years! We are excited about these changes and we are looking forward to a great 2013 racing season.

Crate Class: With the limited number of crates that have ran at Highland Speedway consistently the past 2 years we have decided to enter a partnership with TriCity Speedway to create a Crate Series and points fund to benefit our crate drivers and increase the number of competitors for this class. This Crate Series will run once a month over the same weekend at these tracks. The goal of this decision is to increase the car count in the Crate class and make for exciting competitive racing action.

This decision was not entered into lightly. We think that this is a great solution to keep the crate class running at Highland. We will also be running the Crate Class at Highland Speedway on a rotating schedule, due to the amount of local cars that have chosen to follow other traveling crate series and not run at Highland on a weekly basis, when their class was offered on a weekly basis. We are excited about this partnership and look forward to a great racing season.

Hornet Class: The Hornet class has not stayed in line with the vision that we had for this class when it was initially started. Therefore Highland Speedway will not be running a hornet class for the 2013 racing season. There are many reasons behind this decision; including that the economics of this class have gotten out of hand and the car count on this class have decreased as the costs to be competitive in this class have risen. We also pay attention to when drivers and teams make comments to track personal and on public forums that state that they will not be returning to the Highland Speedway and are taking them into consideration as well.

This class was intended to be an entry level class for people to gain experience and confidence and then move on to another class, it was never intended to be a career class. This class was intended to be an economical class, however now there are teams out there spending more and more on wraps, motors, upgrades, after market products, etc. The only thing any team should go above and beyond spending in this class is on safety equipment!

Our intentions are to bring this class back in a few years, as a stock class. The goal of this decision is to get this class back to what it was originally intended to be. Stock meaning working radio, rear tail lights, no fancy wraps, no upgrades, no after market products of any kind, etc. There will be a limit on length of time you are allowed to stay in this class. It will not be a career class. It will be what it was originally intended to be, a place for new racers to learn, gain confidence, and it will be economical.

Micros: We are excited to announce that we will be adding an Outlaw Winged Micro class to Highland Speedway for the 2013 season. This new addition will be running on a rotating schedule due to a number of teams that follow traveling series. We are excited to make this announcement and look forward to the new fans it will bring to the Highland Speedway. This class looks like it will be a good fit for Highland Speedway as it will provide exciting open wheel racing action and there are a good number of Micros already established in this area. We have met with several of the teams and they are also excited about this addition to out 2013 racing season.

Other Announcements: We have been hard at work, trying to find ways to bring everyone a better show. With that in mind we have made the following changes for the 2013 racing season. We are reducing the number of classes we run a night. As many of you know we are up against a curfew with the city of Highland. We have decided to run 5 classes a night. This will help allow us to get done racing at a reasonable hour and will allow everyone to either get home earlier or visit with drivers and teams after the races. KidzMods will be racing on a rotating schedule and will be racing during intermission; this will allow us to stay on a reasonable time schedule. Race receivers are mandatory for the following classes: Late Models, Modifieds, Crates, Micros, and KidzMods. It is strongly suggested that the SportMods and Street Stocks also have race receivers. This will make for quicker, more efficient lineups and restarts. The classes and points funds that will be running at Highland Speedway are as follows: Late Models, Modifieds, SportMods, Street Stocks, Crates, Micros, and KidzMods.

well said and well thought out. I think running the crates on a limited schedule to work with other races is a good idea. I also think sticking to 5 classes is a great idea. Futhermore, I have a car for sale that would make a really good SportMod for somebody..........

as far as hornets being economical and competitive, 2 cars that I built won features at highland this year. I have NEVER spent more than $1500 building a car.

The struggling economy has effected EVERY class. IF the track wants to make a statement, please do it with educated facts, not uneducated theories! One of my cars won the track championship and rookie of the year at Highland this past season. I have NEVER spent more than $1500 on any of my cars as well. This was THE most economic and competitive class they had at Highland!

I don't like to see any class dropped because no matter what somebody's got money tied up in equipment. But i am excited to also see that it appears some thought was put into this and that we have talked before on here about rotating classes so all i can say is those who have cars hear is your chance to race and have a week off to be with the family. and for us fans in the stands we get to see different cars I cant wait for the schedule to come out. And congrats to Kevin & Scott for working together helping is better the cutting each others throats. I will support each race track this up coming season.

Great call Scott...at first I didn't think it was gonna be as thought out like it was. It's definitely great to see to tracks work together. These two tracks are the nicest in the area. Two bad you guys couldn't work something out on a few special Street Stock shows. I know several Tri city guys who plan on running there. But anyway thanks for some open wheel cars and best of luck this year...can't wait for the season to begin

I feel for any class being dropped as I was a part of the TCS Sportsman that were dropped. However, just go look at the classifieds for the 4 bangers and right there you will see these things were their own worst enemy. I for one wouldnt pay 3500 for any 95 saturn. Hopefully these drivers can find a local track to run.

You know these guys wanna come on here and say oh I built mine for $1500 and this and that. I tried to by one from a front runner that was winning everything and he said $3000 just what I have in it. They beat their self on this one Jmo

i would rather spend up to 3000 on a hornet than have to put 6 or 7 in a bomber. not saying i would have 3 grand in mine. last year i got the car and cage for free . by the time i bought a car that had low miles on the engine and transmison i had to pay 1000. then new 4 tires. i would say i had at least 1500 in it . now if i would have had to get a cage seat and belt i would say add a 1000 for that your already at 2500. i guess you could stop there but if you like your car to look good you have to do some body work and for who ever is *****ing about a wrap. i guess they dont shop around you can get wraps cheaper then you can get some cut graphics also you dont have to do as much body work because it hides most of it.

to my fellow b-mod drivers and those interested in running that class,,you need to show your support by putting cars in the pits,,ya,i was not a fan at first but after a few weeks i felt at home in the class,,ya,you can spend a bunch but truth be known,in the end it is a very affordable class..i may start a b-mod thread to see who is planning on running that class,,,any way hope ya all have a great turky day,,,this is lenny garson and i approve this post

Just a few things going on as Highland Speedway announces to discontinue the Sport Compact class. This weekend, Screven Motor Speedway will have their 4th or 5th annual 100 lap $8k to win 4-cyls. http://facebook.com/ScrevenMotorSpo....36908.161004103919626&__user=100000174037204 Transponders and qualifying will be implemented. Also this weekend Farley Speedway will have their 2nd annual 200 lap $10k to win Sport Compacts. http://www.simmonspromotionsinc.com/track.php?action=schedule&trackid=7
In attendance will be late model/4-cyl driver Joe Zrostlik http://z50racing.com/ who by the way, has raced at Highland speedway in the past.... This class is a whole lot bigger then Highland and most people would ever think. Some promoters grasp the profitability of this class, and others leave the money on the table.

I am not a fan of the hornets but this is a bad deal for them in my eyes. They put on a good show for hardly no weekly payout. I personally dont see the reason behind getting rid of them. If one of highlands complaints about them is the cost then they can only blame themselves for no enforcing rules and letting the class get carried away money wise. If from day one they would have been harsh on the rules then maybe they wouldnt be in this situation. I know highland isnt the only track running them but dont make excuses like it is only the drivers faults. When ya say you hope to bring them back in a few years but being more strict on rules. No wraps??? Seriously??? Thats about stupid. If someone wants to spend the money on a wrap to have a nice looking car then why not? I know i always take pride in the way my cars look and if i want to wrap it then who is to say i cant? Not like it makes ya go any faster and those that dont want to dont have to. Not going to make a difference anyways.

On a positive note it is cool that there will be a local track running micros on a somewhat regular basis. Thats nice to see and i also like that tri city and highland have teamed up for the crate series. They should get together on other classes too. Good luck to highland in 2013. Hopefully this decision doesnt come back to bite ya.

Last years Gobbler winner Evan Gaultney raced Highland this year. Started the feature beside Rob and finished 2 cars behind him. We are leavin in the morning heading to this years Gobbler stopping in Evansville, In to pick up Blayne Ellis and his car.

It was the same car that won the Gobbler that he ran at Highland too.

From what I've heard, Fayette County Speedway is going to switch to Saturday nights and run Hornets and Crates..

I dont really like this call with the hornets..get rid of the kids mods what I have seen they are a joke put them kids in a gokart or hornet or street stock.. and telling some one in the hornet class that they can only race for a few seasons then they half to move up is crap..what if all they can aford is racing a hornet.. why dont u tell a late model driver he cant no longer race he needs to go to a sprint car or retire..If I want to race a hornet for 10 years Ill do it if thats all I can afford. and I will wrap or paint my car any way I want..Tell the crate drivers to move up or get out...Yea right...The hornet drivers useley bring at least 2 to 5 or more people with them pit passes or gen admission beer drank soda hot dogs bought the track will lose with out them.. They wont go broke bit will miss alot compaired to their pay out...Why dont tracks stick with the basic hell you have B Mods.A Mods..Late Models..Crates Late models..how many other classes are they going to make up..In stead of hornets create a class like street stock but compleatly stock just a cage and springs....Its always the little man that suffers... how much cheating is going on in the street stock class how much money do you throw onto a street stock... Crate class isnt even either....JMO...

One way to fix the hornet problem but no one with enough BALLS to enforce it. 2k claim on any car. Period. Imo kids mods are stupid, yea i said STUPID. Kids have no business in a modified. How abt an ENTRY LEVEL CAR??? Its just for the people w too much money. jmo. But i do wish highland the best. Good people.

i like the claim rule. i think there should be a form of claim rule in every class, enforced by the track not ump. if people know they could get claimed and really lose their stuff, they might not dump a million dollars in a car to win 200, or 500.
