Highly Anticipated Kentucky Speedweek Takes Center Stage Next Week

Speedweek Champion Gets Automatic Starting Berth in 2006 North South 100

LEXINGTON, KY - The long-awaited and highly anticipated Kentucky Speedweek takes center stage in the dirt track racing world next week as the inaugural event boasts five races in six days. The first four events will be sanctioned by the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts while the final race will be a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned show with the cameras of Speed Channel on hand to tape that race.

Officials of the both the Series and Florence Speedway are please to announce the Inaugural Kentucky Speedweek Points Champion will receive a guaranteed starting birth in the prestigious North-South 100 on August 11th and 12th, 2006. The Points Champion will receive $1000 in cash for his efforts for the weeklong pilgrimage across the Bluegrass state and then be guaranteed $1500 Start Money for the North-South 100 with the possibility of cashing in on the huge $50,000 the 100 lap event in August pays to the winner of the event. With this added bonus, the 2006 Kentucky Speedweek Points Champion is guaranteed a minimum $2500 with a possibility of making the week long reward $51,000!

Second place in the Speedweek points will receive $1200, while third place takes home $700. Fourth place in the Speedweek points will receive $600 and fifth place is $500. Points for the inaugural Kentucky Speedweek will be tallied using the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series/Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points system and payouts are based on 4 of the 5 scheduled events being completed. Series Officials anticipate additional announcements this week in regards to other bonuses for drivers competing in the 2006 Kentucky Speedweek.

The first ever Kentucky Speedweek kicks off with a $3000 to win show on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th, as the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts makes their first ever visit to the Sherri Heckenast-promoted Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway located in Calvert City, KY. In addition, fans attending this race will also get to see the B-Mains and the feature from the rained out "99".

Night Two of the inaugural Kentucky Speedweek will go down at the David and Anita Ferrell-promoted Bluegrass Speedway on Tuesday, May 30th. Located just south of historic Bardstown, KY, Bluegrass Speedway is a 1/2-mile high-banked clay oval. On tap will be the 9th Annual Spring Sizzler for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series paying $3000 to win.

After taking Wednesday night off, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts will venture to the action track known as Richmond Raceway on Thursday, June 1st for another $3000 to win event. Never short on excitement, Richmond Raceway is a 3/10 semi-banked oval that is home to the Butterball Wooldridge Memorial among other special events. Greg Johnson picked up the win in the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series win at Richmond back on April 28th.

Friday, June 2nd, the Ponderosa Speedway will host Night Four of the Kentucky Speedweek with the first ever running of the Ponderosa 50. This show will pay $5000 to the winner of the 50-lap O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series race on the 3/8-mile Junction City oval. In one O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series event held at "The Pond" this season, Joey Daniel notched a thrilling win over Chris Combs.

The inaugural Kentucky Speedweek comes to a close in front of the Speed Channel Cameras on Saturday, June 3rd at the King Family's Florence Speedway with the $10,000 to win 20th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial which will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The Ralph Latham Memorial always draws a stellar field of cars to the 1/2-mile high-banked clay oval and this year's event is expected to be no different. Don O'Neal won last year's event in thrilling fashion, passing Earl Pearson Jr. with just three laps to go.

Currently, there are tight points battles atop both the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champions standings. A mere 80 points separates the top four in the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series standing with Mike Jewell leading Chris Combs, Bryan Barber, Tim Tungate, and Justin Rattliff. In the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, defending Series Champion Earl Pearson Jr. has a slim 20 point lead over Don O'Neal with Donnie Moran, Matt Miller, and Scott James completing the top five.
