Horsepower in a late model.

I heard one announcer on speed channel say around 8 to 900.and then he said some of them pushing in the mid 900.I know the majority of the guys are around 800.was he correct when he said mid 900?

He was standing next to rod conleys car when he said it.just thought 900 was a lot.and what is the most anyone has heard of in one.

we had a 430 13 degree motor in my super late and Custom Race Engines of Knoxville, TN built it. It had just over 850. I would think it would be possible as some sprint cars are over 900. Fuel injection helps that out.

Most local guys around here are in the 750 to mid 800's with some a tad more. Now for your big touring guys they are in the mid 800's to low 900's with some pushing more horsepower. One thing to keep in mind on high horsepower is during early season when the tracks stay tacky the driver is able to put all the horsepower to the ground. However when it gets mid season and the summer temps heat up, the track will slick off and those high horsepower cars dont do alot of good if you dont have the following three things. 1. being a driver who can feather the pedal not to break the tires loose 2. a good set up guy and 3. have a good tire guy.

Most touring guys have at least 3 mills in the hauler,so they can change and adapt to the conditions, most locals don't have that luxury.

Horsepower doesn't matter,(kind of like the size of your pe*ker)the question is, can you drive it like you stole it...just sayin. :):)

Well first all there are only a couple heads on the market that can support that kind of horsepower, for a small block chevy i beleave those were 9 deg heads, by MBE cylinder heads. Alan Johnson cylinder heads also makes a sbc head that will flow the numbers to make that kind of horsepower.

Well my main reason for asking was it just seems like the horsepower keeps growing. I know you can set a car up different to handle track conditions.but it just seems to keep growing.I guess as years go by.and they find more ways to get the power to the track.I just wonder when enough is going to be enough. Or will it just keep climbing higher.will we see 1000 in the next few years.

My snowmobile has 130..........at least it did when it was stock LOL
Aren't the crates like 350-400?
D&M in Breese has a Dyno. Next time I see one of the Guys I'll ask them what a practical number might be.

My wife said she didn't care how much horsepower my engine had, as long as it got the job done........................................Check!!!

Yeah it keeps growing. There's a few sayings such as keeping up with the Jones'..... Or when in rome do as the romans. Those with the funds to buy big HP will and forces the hands of the others if they wanna keep up. Come to think of it, that is racing in a nut shell!!!!

But, I will say, the most over estimated thing in racing is horsepower. I think it's funny to listen to guys say what their "estimated" HP should be when the motor hasn't ever seen a dyno. I think a lot of racers would be depressed if they ever did dyno it. Especially when you get to the levels being thrown around on here. You can spend thousands to boost it and gain low single digits.
