LEXINGTON, KY-- Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY will be the site for this Friday Night's visit by the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts with the running of the Fifth Annual Hugh "Junebug" Rowland Memorial Race at the Jerry and Mary Denson promoted facility.
There will be a complete show for the O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCars with Racing Optics Time Trials, the Crown Spray Power Heat Races, the O'Reilly Auto Parts B-Mains and the Lucas Oil A-Main paying $3000 to win.
"Junebug" as everyone called him was the "racers friend" for many years as he was in the racing parts business, helping many drivers with parts, supplies, tires, fuel, race cars or whatever they needed to get started or to the next race. The race at Ponderosa this Friday will honor the memory of "Junebug" for his years of contributions to the sport of racing. The previous "Junebug" Rowland Memorial winners at Ponderosa include, Dustin Neat, Jay Mobley, Don O'Neal and last year's winner, Mike Marlar, the 2003 O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series Champion.
It will be the eighth point’s race of the 2004 season for Kentucky's Premier Dirt Late Model Sanctioning Body. With seven events already in the books this year it is almost a sure bet that the there will be a third different points champion in the three years the series has raced. Currently Greg Johnson holds the top spot in the points followed in the top five by Aaron Hatton, Tyrel Todd, Johnny Wheeler and Brad Neat. The second five in points are Doug Smith, Steve Cornelius, Spensor Watson, Dennis Selby and Joey Kramer. Hatton, Todd and Wheeler are bidding to become the first three drivers to finish in the top ten of the points each year since the series started in 2002.
Activities will get underway with the pits opening at 3 pm (EDT) with a drivers meeting at 6:15 PM and hot laps to follow at approximately 6:30 pm. Ponderosa Speedway is located in Junction City, KY.
