Humpy Wheeler's 11 things all track promoters should be doing

100+ cars in 4 classes that run a complete show in 3 hours or less? As long as I've been going to races, I've yet to see it. That's usually my biggest gripe with the tracks around here...it doesn't seem like they can get the show over in a timely manner. That being said, I could care less how long I sit there as long as the races are good. Haubstadt does the best job at having the next race rolling out as the previous race is finishing of any track in this area.

That guy knows what he is talking about. He is the most successful promoter in the last 20 years. A lot of these depend on the promoter being VERY selective on who he/she hires to work as track workers or concession help!!!...RULE #1: Do your job or we will find someone who can or will....BTW,working at a racetrack beats the H*LL out of McD's or any other summer job,Kids...Your FB page will still be there when you get home!....LEAVE THE PHONES AT HOME!!! JMO!...;)

I think Schrader since he is tight with Federated should lean toward maybe getting a Economy race car package that any can buy at there local Major Auto Parts as a kit that they can buy and build at home to race at there local race tracks. Have a package that includes a chassis, rear end, shock's, bodys that looks closer to something you see every day on the street and a 2 barrel Rochester......open motor rules or just go crate but i think open would allow racers to throw a junk yard motor in it to start rather then pay the cost of the crate engine....I'm sure chassis builders would love to mass produce a economy chassis and I would think the class would really grow but I'm sure some will hate the idea but there is a lot of things you can do to make this an attractive entry level class ;)

I agree with Rodney about Macon. It's routine for them to wrap up the show before 10:30. Several years ago they ran hornets, SS, sportsman, mods, mini sprints and midgets. Total car count was approaching 225. We watched every race except for the hornet feature and were on our way home at 10:40!!!!!
I wish my local track was that efficient. It's pretty bad when I can get home from Macon which is over a 2 hour drive, earlier than I can my local track which is less than 10 miles away.

These days, I'm impressed with a track that does HALF the things on that list successfully. Still too many promoters out there who prefer to operate the way they did 20 years ago and then wonder why their stands and pits are empty. Working hard isn't always the same as working smart.
