I-55 public hearing?

HI folks I've been away for a while and drove by the outer road on the track and noticed a little tiny sign for a public hearing about rezoning I55 racetrack. Anyone know any specifics about whats going on? I read the sign and it said that they were changing it from one type of zoning to another to bring it into compliance to operate a race track? Any information will help it says the meeting is I think the 20th which is tomorrow.

Well Lets Hope Whatever They Are Doing Is For The Better And Will Take Away Any Possibility Of Complaints Down The Road.

Well I was hoping it was something to prevent problems like other tracks have had and not in response to something that would threaten it. I am going to assume no one knows the answer and will hope for the best.

It has to with making changes in the zoning classification to bring the enitre property into the correct zoning category. I think part of it was zoned residential and for obvious reasons they need that changed.

Maybe they're making the lake a pay lake!!!! Come on Ray I want to fish there...LOL. I am totally serious though.

Could this be the first step to a major track improvement at I-55?

Without getting into a battle about the tracks, I think I-55 has done a wonderful job in doing improvements to the grounds and the track IMHO is always one of the best there is in the area. I'm not saying its perfect I dont think any track will ever be perfect. What areas do you think need Major improvements that they arent already working towards?

I think that a lapboard or a scoreboard and time clock would be nice. When you are there and they are consistantly running qualifying you can't hear the times. It would be nice to know who is where on the track too and in what position down to at least 10th place.
But its just my opinion. But, for the most part I think Kenny and Ray do a great job at I-55 compared to some places I've been.

The pit area seriously needs addressed as well. The larger car counts it's getting harder for teams to find places to park. I think that the grounds where the old drag strip is at needs to be reallocated for use as a pit area for both the dirt track and the go-cart track. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to see all cars pitting on the outside of the track. I know a lot of people enjoy seeing the infield pitting, but there have been many times when the races where cancelled due to muddy conditions on the infield. Eliminate the infield pitting, or at the very least give the track other options for pitting outside, and they could be open more often. The only tracks that make money are the one's that are open!

scoreboard and pit situation bingo but must not be too bad gotta picture in speed illustrated march 2007 check it out

A simple lap counter would be nice at every track. With eyes like mine knowing where guys are running isn't a problem. Just sometimes keeping track of laps gets tough. Especially under long greens near the end of a race.

Lap counter would be nice for the drivers also. I never know how many laps are remaining.

Not only an enlargement of the outer pit area, but also, possibly a lengthening of the track itself, perhaps to a 3/8 mile? I've heard this rumor for a few years now. I certainly hope they leave the track length alone, I love it just the way it is.

It's funn you should say that moonflow. Just this morning I was talking with some guys that I used to work with on the ambulance down there. We were discussing this very topic. I recall the rumor of the track being enlarged as well. The rumor I heard was that turns 1 and 2 were to be moved out to increase the track to a 3/8 mile. I also heard that Kenny really wanted to make it a 1/2 mile but that the grounds probably wouldn't support the size. Again, these were all just rumors and probably carry no water. But it would be interesting to say the least. And I agree, I like the track as it sits. But so did a lot of Tri-City 1/2 mile fans.

If they have the money to put in an elevated - air conditioned & heated restaurant/bar then I imagine they could put it any damn place they wanted! LOL!

I Have No Desiree To See The Track Enlarged. Definitely No 1/2 Mile. I Like It How It Is. Just Concentrate On Good Track Prep Is All I Care To See.
