I-55 Raceway -- the track!

I think that everyone on here needs to slow down and read what is really being said, and then think about what they post before they reply. A large part of what laynej is saying is correct. It seems to me that everyone involved in this post is just pointing fingers and trying to discredit layne because he is making a valid negative point about everyones favorite race track. Indeed I-55 has great racing, and indeed layne likes I-55 because he goes there every week. Lets all think about what we post before we hit enter, and stop crying because your favorite race track messed up slightly.

a freind of mine called and said drivers were complaing about monkey co being rough all i cansay is lookat the calender and then open up mouth

I think that I-55 has the most consistant preperation around. You must remember, it was only the first race of the season, and it's hard to judge how much moisture the track has retained over the winter months. It was a little too dry, took rubber, and therefore locked down. Now, I expect them to put more water than usual down on the track next weekend, because the sprint cars tend to really dry it out quick. I expect that the program will be run similar to last year....prep the track, run the modified program, except for the semi and feature, and then redo the track. Then they'll bring out the outlaws, and that will be the last time they touch the track, unless it gets too rough. I expect a fast track next weekend, but not fast enough to break the track record.

In 2001 I went to the early WoO race at Pevely. It was the race that made me decide I'd never go to one again. They have the best racers anywhere and still can't put on a good show. It was the biggest train I'd ever seen. Less Pevely's fault than WoO's. Dad talked to the Dude a couple of months ago (they used to race against his dad at Marshall) and said that those cars have the motors lightened so much that they'd break the block if they hopped a cushion. We've suspected that was what was happening for years with the increasingly dry treatment of WoO races (sprint cars can usually handle bigger bumps..). First time it was told by one of their own though.

I don't know where he got that info from, but in March 2002 the track was extremely tacky and rough. There were two fairly impressive flips, and a massive hole in turn 4. No drivers blew an engine or cracked a block that I know of because of the bumps in that race.

I just can't believe this,All the *****in already. Ive said it once are twice you all are the luckyist folks in the USA being where you are.You all have 10 of the best race tracks with in a 200 mile radious. Pevley being # 1

Track was very good for a long time tonight. Then they put the useless rut makers out on the track for the first feature of the night and it ruined it. I noticed that and many drivers I spoke with afterwards said this exact same reason. The 4 cyliners whatever they call them (PRO 4 STOCK?) sure hurt the track for the other racers. Track held up very well for a long time and track crew should be commended on that because of so many races!
