Belleville, IL, July 11--Luke Icke scored his first Midwest Auto Racing Series victory of the season capturing the 25 lap main at Belle-Clair Speedway Sunday night.
Tim Siner jumped into the lead at the start followed closely by Steve Knepper. While Siner and Knepper waged a fierce battle on the cushion, Mike Hess and Icke were working their way to the front on the bottom.
Icke took contol of the race on lap 13 and pulled out to a five car length lead. On lap 20, Knepper slid under Siner going into turn one only to have Siner dive back under Knepper and maintain second. Meanwhile, Hess jumped to the cushion to join the battle for second.
At the finish, it was Icke over Siner and Knepper with Mike Hess and Chad Branson rounding out the top five.
In the 600cc micro sprint feature Brad Loyet started up front and stayed there to pick up his first ever win at Belle-Clair.
Loyet jumped into the lead at the start and was pursued by Christopher Massey until Massey retired with front end damage. Gary "Bubba" Altig moved into second only to have his engine expire with just a few laps remaining. Tony Roney moved into second on the last lap follwed by Adam Holder, Jordan Goldesberry, and Ryan Criswell.
31 midgets and 49 micro sprints filled the pit area.
The next MARA event at Belle-Clair will be the Arnie Knepper Memorial Wednesday August 11.
