What was the pay-out for the top 4? …

$525 isn’t even enough to do the bare necessity machine work to a block to get an engine started to replace the ones that were claimed.

The promoter has been claiming the top 5 motors at the IMCA nationals for several years now. I have been racing for 10 and I know that they were doing it before then.

first time there and was very impressed

wednesday -friday 40 mod heats, 2 a mains, 8 b mains i believe, 12-16 spotmod heats with a mains and b mains, along with reworking the track every 10-15 races started at 4, ended around 1 am each night (i believe the announcer said 80 races those nights.

monday-tuesday 16 hobby stock heats, 16 stock car heats b mains and a mains with late models monday and sprints tuesday (about 70 races each night)

also if you bring out the yellow in the heat and do not get your car going before the yellow comes out you are done for the night (your fault or not)

and thet do tech the cars, hobby and stock cars qualified for saturdays a main. pulled gears and transmissions, i seen a hobby car with the intake off, could not see what was being checked

mods pulled gears transmissions (i believe) and msd boxes (rumor i heard in the pits was a late model was caught with traction control, do not know if it was true though)

immediately after heats they would weigh the car and do a tech on the infield in all classes checking carbs, wheelbase etc.

i mod was illegal with engine setback, and the 1h (hoffman mod) did not have the imca stickers on his wheels and was illegal, there were others illegal but those 2 are the ones i remember

Isn't that supposed to be to keep the high money motors out?

That's absolutely the reason.I used to live and race in Boone.IMCA is very firm in enforcing the rules to keep the field on a level field.

I understand the reasoning of it and I agree with that kind of rule… If there is going to be a claim rule at an event (even a weekly track for that matter) then a “promoter claim rule” is really the only one that works…

It’s the dollar amount I can NOT grasp. For $525 these guys could swing by a junkyard on the way home and snatch up a leaking, smoking,100,000 plus mile small-block that “ran when it came out that pick-up over there.” Then what?

If I remember right the motor gets pulled right after the end of the feature and it's impounded until it's pulled. The wrecker driver gets $25 for pulling the motor.
