BARDSTOWN, Ky. -- Bluegrass Speedway promoters David and Anita Ferrell and DTWC promoter Carl Short have hit the home stretch leading up to the 23rd Annual Dirt Track World Championship event to be held for the second consecutive season at the ½ mile Nelson County dirt oval that is located just outside of beautiful and historic Bardstown, KY. Track promoter David Ferrell and his staff are in the process of adding additional permanent seating for the event, as their will also be additional temporary seating that will be brought in for this race weekend. The event that will pay $60,000 to win for the Late Models and $2,000 to win for Modifieds is now less that a month away, as it will once again take place on it's traditional date of the third weekend of October, with that being October 18 and 19 this year. This will be the richest weekend of short track dirt Late Model racing that has ever been contested in the state of Kentucky.

The rules for the Late Model division will be the same as they were one year ago with the Late Models having to weigh 2,300 at all times, UDTRA/Renegade/NALMS/Battle of the Bluegrass style body rules, no radios or mirrors, and no traction control or wheel spin devices allowed. The tire rule for the event will be open, with any compound 11"x92" tire compound allowed for the race.

The Modified division will also be in action and their rules will be the usual Bluegrass Speedway rules of UMP rules, with an 8" spoiler on the cars. Also, the Modifieds will receive one lap of time trial qualifications immediately after the Late Models complete time trials.

Activities will get underway on Saturday, October 18, with all gates opening at 9:00 a.m. Late Model time trials will get underway around 1:00 p.m. that afternoon, with Modified time trials to follow. Following pre-race opening ceremonies, the Late Model heats will be contested, followed by the Modified heats. The evening will conclude with a party that will have live music from the local band As-Is, sponsored by local Budweiser distributor Smith Brothers Distributing of Bardstown, KY.

The weekend will conclude with Sunday's activities on October 19, with all gates again opening at 9:00 a.m. Last chance consolation races will get underway on Sunday afternoon around 1:00 p.m., with Late Model consies followed by Modified consies. There will then be driver introductions for those drivers making the $60,000 to win Late Model main event, followed by the 100 lap Late Model Dirt Track World Championship, with the $2,000 to win Modified main event concluding the weekend of racing.

Race teams can pre-enter the event until October 8 and save some money. The Late Model pre-entry fee is $100 and the Modified pre-entry fee is $25. If your race team enters after October 8, the Late Model entry fee will be $200 and the Modified entry fee is $50.

Race fans can still get tickets in advance and save some money as well, but it must also be done before October 8. Tickets can be purchased in advance, with adult general admission only $35, children ages 6 to 12 will be $10, and children under age 6 free with a paid adult, with pit passes $45. These prices are good only until October 8 and ticket prices are good for both days of the event. If tickets are purchased after October 8 or at the gates on race weekend, adult general admission is $45, children age 6 to 12 are $15, and children under age 6 are free with a paid adult, while pit passes will be $55.

Race teams and race fans can pre-enter or get their tickets in advance by the following means: Pre-entries and tickets can be purchased at Bluegrass Speedway on the racenights of September 20 and September 27 at the main concession area; or they can be purchased and pre-entered by sending a money order or cashiers check to DTWC/266 East Grubbs Lane/Danville, KY 40422-9503. Please allow ample return mailing time and include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

A total of 124 Late Models and 68 Modifieds were on hand last year for the event, that was contested all in one day after day-long rain showers on Saturday, moving the entire program to Sunday. Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Illinois won the $50,000 to win Late Model portion of the weekend, making it the current biggest win of his career. Joey Kramer of Hanover, IN was the Modified winner that weekend and is currently enjoying a successful rookie Late Model campaign.

Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY is owned by Charles Hamilton and promoted by David and Anita Ferrell. The racetrack is a ½ semi-banked dirt oval that is currently in its ninth season of operation. Also, there will be a limited amount of free camping also available on the racetrack grounds.
