MARKLEYSBURG, PA (May 7, 2011) Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex beat out Mother Nature and got it’s first points race of the 2011 season after a brief sprinkle hit the track. Picking up his first Roaring Knob American Racer Tire Super Late Model feature was Jacob Hawkins. Bob Nelson (TC Parts Street Stocks), Ricky Meglaye (FASTRAK Late Models), Marty Spade, Jr. (Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers), Deana Groves (Modifieds) and Steve Settle (Roadrunners) all picked up feature wins Saturday night.
The TC Parts Street Stocks started the season off with their 15 lap feature. Scott Spade led lap one before Joe Wrona passed him. Wrona led until lap ten when sixth starting Bob Nelson, of Dunbar, made the winning pass. Nelson then pulled away to score the feature win. Todd Dennis claimed second over Jim Bendishaw, Jr., Wrona, Jim Byers, John Redshaw, Charlie McClain, Josh Bendishaw, Chris Lucy and Matt Rishel. Nelson and Ben Policz claimed heat wins.
Youngwood’s Ricky Meglaye started on the outside pole and quickly took the lead at the start of the FASTRAK Late Model Feature. Meglaye had defending champion John Over on his back bumper all 20 laps. Over pulled along side but was never able to pass the speeding Meglaye. The win was his 11th career and ties him with Garry Sisson as the all-time leader in the class. Shawn Jett raced home third over Bobby Cossell and Dan Angelicchio. Sixth through tenth were Troy Shields, Rick Strickler, Mike Lewis, Billy Stile III and Mike Opalinsky. Over, Meglaye and Jett all were heat winners.
Clate Copeman took the initial lead in the 25-lap American Racer Tire Super Late Model A-Main. Copeman looked strong holding off Gary Dalton before he exited on lap eight. Copeman then battled with Fairmont, WV’s Jacob Hawkins. Hawkins drove hard into turn three and then slide up in front of Copeman to take the lead. Two laps later Jared Hawkins also past Copeman and took off after his younger brother in an anticipated showdown. Jared slowed on lap 18 and went pitside. This handed the runnerup spot to Chad McClellan. McClellan tried his best but the young Hawkins parked in victory lane at Roaring Knob for the first time in his career. McClellan, Scott Rhodes, Copeman, Sam Stile (from 11th), Billy Holbert, Gary Gellner, Quinton Wyandt, Mark Booth and Bob Hershman filled out the top ten. Shane Hitt and Jared Hawkins won the two heats.
Fifth starting Marty Spade, Jr. took the lead from Kenny Burkholder on lap six and went on to claim the 12-lap Ft. Necessity Garage Charger feature. Bus Matthews led the first two laps before Burkholder shot to the front for four laps. Once out front Spade held off Scott Smith for the win. Burkholder, JT Baird, Bennie Dennis, Ross Higbee, Justin Howell, CJ Nicola, Jim Tush and Bob Matthews were the top ten. Heat winners were Burkholder and Baird.
An extremely thin field of Modifieds saw Deana Groves taking the feature win. Nick Cramer lead the first three laps before his slipped up in turn four and opened the door the Morgantown, WV driver to take the lead. Groves went unchallenged for the win over Josh Cramer, Bruce Dreistadt and Louie Krushansky. Groves also won the heat.
The FWD 4 Cylinder Roadrunners have been added as a weekly class. Leading all ten laps for the win was Steve Settle of West Leisenring. Mark Seiler, Cindy Rhodes, Phillip Wiltrout, Todd Detrick and Ed Detrick rounded out the field. Settle also won the lone heat.
Next week, May 14, will be another action packed six division show featuring the American Racer Tire Super Late Models, FASTRAK Late Models, Modifieds, TC Parts Street Stocks, Ft.
