Can you make this a paid site? I would gladly pay $10 or $20 per year to be a member of this site.

What this would do... is:

First, all accounts would be verified with PayPal and the user's name would be MANDATORY.

Second, it would get rid of the MAJORITY of "keybaord track promoters" who have multiple screen names and get on here and bash rather than promote the sport of auto racing.

Third, give PAID USERS the option to "shut off" the free accounts so that we don't have to see their crap when we are looking at and reading some of the valuable information you and other worthy users put on this site.

Honestly, I don't get on here near as much as I used to because of all the stupidity that is being displayed. The last few days I have been on here and I am dismayed by all the same old crap that comes up year after year. And is refuted year after year.

If not, maybe a more agressive push to identify the users that post under multiple names and possibly ban them until they register using their REAL identity.

What are people afraid of? If you have something to say, then be man enough (or woman enough) to sign your name.

ANYONE can get on hear and run their mouths blindly. But I doubt that most of these "keyboard track promoters" would open their mouths the way they do if they were required to sign their name and be held accountable for what they say.

I know this has been brought up before... but enough is enough. Do something or else people will go elsewhere for their info. You have a great site here but it can be sooo much better! Take control of it! I know that facebook and Twitter have probably cut into your hits over the past few years and I can tell by the quality of content that is on here, that people ARE already turning to other means to avoid some of the nonsense on here.

Drivers and tracks are relying more on facebook to reach their fans just to avoid some of the crap on here. I don't want to see stlracing die... but I see it happening.

Even if it is a lesser amount... like 2.00 or 5.00 per year... just having the PayPal verification and a real identity behind every user would clean it up considerably.

(ready for the bashing to begin)

Great post. I put my name on here....to me if your afraid to use your name then you dont need to post on here. There is a way to use ignore on here i think....i dont care. If something goes south like the Troy thread...........just let it die and get locked like it did. I posted there i thought multiple nics were being used and it was. I think Jimmy does a great job on this site keeping things under control. But it is something to think about.

Actually doing that would de value this website that it would go belly up, sucessful website's need to be...wanted, needed, free when possible with a lot of entertainment, drama or anything that keep bringing people to it like all the cool info, updates and photo's that Jimmy and everyone else post on here, but i agree with michael about how he always has his name on his post... thats easy enuff to do i guess

Yes facebook is the place to avoid crap LOL... Facebook is probably a hundred times as full of people using multiple accounts and talking crap... This is a forum to talk about racing not a members only club for racers or car owners. Like it or not all the good and bad messages on here do one thing and that is promote your sport to a public medium, it brings hits to the site and attention to your hobby. The only thing that making people sign their name would do is start more trouble. It would only take one person who didnt like your post to find out where you live and do something stupid like inflicting physical harm on a person or their family. I agree that it might make that person think before they posted something that would make someone go to those lengths, but in this day and age it doesnt take much to provoke some stupid people who dont like what you said. In my opinion it would be as mudface said an empty forum if every post read... "You raced great friday your the best." "I-55 is super awesome." Look at the post with the most views and you have an idea why people come here..

Where is 28jracers name ? For someone who so big on signatures. And why does he have to type a novel for every post.

I think Jimmy does a really good job of keeping things within reason and closes threads that need closed. Ive been wanred once and learned a lesson about the rules on here and its his site.........his rules. 4,000 posts here and i do so to help people(i goto the tech forum alot...heck ive posted questions there too!) goot classifieds alot(bought.......sold quite a few things there) and ive met alot of people that come to this site and have known them for years. When someone has an issue with someone elses posts.......as long as its kept civil i dont think it degrades anything. If it rolls over into real life....then thats because one or the other didnt give or take. But when you goto the white trash side and start the name calling and bullying........then it turns into something that makes not just this site........but racing in general look bad. Putting names on here in my opinion....just seals the deal in saying....hey im posting and when you see me somewhere this is how i feel.

Maybe to cut down on the stuff....just keep threads open that contain actual race info and not decision calls......speculation.....ect? Close those to keep info ones open? Just a thought

What good would it do to pay to get on here Dirt boy and I will gladly pay to get on here to tell you that's about a stupid idea as some of the ones I come up with. Whats wrong with the way it is now? People mostly speak from the heart so if track promoters anyone else don't like what is said so be it. There is one track promoter that reads the good and bad from his track and uses the comments to better his track and it works. Good post racin90 . just take what you read with a grain of salt and don't let it get to you. If it gets to you you must really have no life other than getting on here.
That's what some want davt they want a members only forum so there little can't do no wrong world don't go out of check. Take the good with the bad big boy and move on.

It's not about taking the good with the bad. Even with what I am proposing... there will also be posts that I do or don't agree with. That's absolutely fine.

It's the ones that get on here, ruin a post by signing in under three or four different screen names and stir the pot. You should not have to hide behind a screen name (as you don't Kent, and I respect you for that... even if I don't always agree with your point of view).

If you are going to post something... it should be something that you would be able to say to a particular person in person. As far as security... If someone wants to track me down and find me (it's not that hard) and burn down my house or do something to my vehicles because I said something on here... well, they have bigger issues to deal with. A person that would do something like that, behind my back, is a coward anyway.

Anything I post, is something I would also say to a person's face about a situation. If he wants to clock me one for saying it... more power to him. But getting on here and posting something anonymously because you are afraid... well... then maybe you shouldn't be opening your mouth to begin with.

Above, DJ called me out for not having my name posted (which I do and have always had) and he also called me out because I type too much. That's totally fine. I don't hold that against him. But I don't think he deserved to be called a jerk-wad... at least not for that... maybe other reasons... LOL! (Just kidding)

I type alot because I don't just get on here and just make a statement, I do things that very few do... I back up what I say with other examples or opinions and I also try to help find solutions or reasoning. I give reasons why I think the way I think. I don't just get on here and post a one-liner without giving my reason for doing so. I am entitled to my opinions as you are yours... but unless you sign your name... you don't own the credibility of your opinion.

Maybe a paid site is not the answer... but ACCOUNTABILITY is! Maybe better moderating of posts is needed. But, that will take more of Jimmy's time. If more money was coming in from this site... maybe it would be worthwhile for him to do so. Plus, maybe we could get rid of some of the annoying ads that are on here.

There has got to be a way to control the stupid people that get p!ssed at the track... come on here and make their very first post under a new screen name and then they sign back in under their regular name in an effort to back up the "fake username post" that they just started earlier... which they somehow think that gives the original post more credibility when someone (even though its the same person) agrees with them.

Sorry DJ... tried my best to keep this one short...

I understand your point now Joe. I am the 1st to say my thoughts or point of view on somethings stink and might not make any since and get some people mad but I try to get it across anyway with no disrespect. Maybe some of the stupid post on here might be just that (As I 1st thought yours was :)) I don't see a sure fire way to fix stupid but one can always just skip across the stupid post on here and move on. most of the time things get fired up is because a person is right and it upsets the other person or there ideas are just dumb. Ether way some things are best left alone. None of us will ever see eye to eye and as long as we are hiding behind this screen we are ok. You can always tell the cool folks on here because no matter how stupid some of my post can be when I see them at a track I always say hi and most of the time they just ask me if I feel better now. Bottom line is it's not as bad as it can be. The post earlier about Facebook is 100% right people will think twice about what they say if they haft to use there real name.

Also, I have been watching the trending on here for several months. With some of the MAJOR news events that have broken this year, and some of the tragic losses our community has suffered... it has still been over a year since a record number of user's online at one time has been surpassed. If any of these recent events would have happened a few years earlier... this board would have lit up and new records would have been set that far outpace the current record. They should have been surpassed this year!

But they weren't.

I talk to a lot of people... people that used to get on here ALL THE TIME. I ask them where they have been or "did you see that post on stlracing" and they say that they don't get on the forums much anymore because of all the BS. They get on... read the front page news... then log off.

Jimmy has proposed my idea in the past just to get feedback... probably because he saw where things are trending. I think it is time to take a more serious look at things or this site will fall much in the same way that MySpace and several other sites have.

I don't want to see that happen. But something has to change.

Also... I am not sying that this has to be a squeeky-clean golly jee Carl Edwards type of site... It is fine to disagree... it is fine to post your point of view or why you don't like something. But if you are going to post your point of view... then MAKE IT YOURS! Don't hide behind a screen name (or multiple ones). This stupidity is turning other valid people away. Also, who would want to advertise on a site that puts up with the BS that has been shown on here?

It's in a slow downward spiral.

Let's restore some credibility and accountability. Let's instill some integrity!

And no... I am not attacking Jimmy D. I just want stlracing to carry on and be as good or better than it once was.

(the Carl Edwards reference was a joke... He's one of my favorite drivers)

I would venture to guess the record for users online was set from the tire doping threads last year at that time, and I dont think anything that controversial has happened in the St. Louis racing scene since then. Im not positive on the timing but just a guess..

You are all naive on how this all works.

Really? Then tell us!

To me, its a typical vBulletin site...

There are thousands of them out there... and some are a lot more locked down than this one is.

Some have more than one moderator to handle the load.

It's all the owner's discretion as to how they set it up.

STLRacing has more page views and more visitors this year than any previous year.

People whining on here has been going on since the first day I opened the forums...

You can already ignore the posts of any user you want. Just click on their username and the view profile. Then there is an option to ADD TO IGNORE LIST... Then you will never see another post that person makes.

Joe, I think your being a little to sensitive... If you don't like what someone posts you can block them. Go to some of the other racing sites out there and you will see the stupidity is off the charts compared to STLracing. Or go to pirate4x4... you better have thick skin if you post there cuz posters routinely get flamed and there is no filter so the f-bomb and the bird fly often over there. That being said, it is without a doubt the the #1 place on the web if you are into 4x4 offroading when it comes to information, tech, and classifieds. I wish there was a racing site more similar to it... If you want to see a great tech section go there, just be forewarned. All I'm saying is lighten up, look at the goobers as enterainment. Maybe when they come to the realization that all they're good for is a roll of the eyes and good joke they'll growup... maybe not, who cares. JMO

Well joe, I don't know how you make it thru a whole night at the races. At the races is just about the same as being on STLRACING. I was at a race last night and this guy said booooo, and the guy next to him said yayyyyyy. The lady in front of me said, the guy that won was cheating, the kid two rows down said my dad don't cheat. Then the old lady two isles to my left said, I wish he would of spun, that jerk ! and her husband said, i wish yours would have flipped. Then I heard my girlfriend yell, put it on the trailer. So joe, I hope this helps you understand a little easier what everyone here is trying to tell you. If not, I know a couple churches you can go visit and here's why . I don't go anymore cause my grandma says black people are ignorant, the old bag in front of me hates the hair on the all wrinkled widow that was doing the preacher and the lady next to me complained about the short dress the girl two rows from me. while the usher was whispering, that it would be nice if they all wore short dresses. I can go on joe, oh yeah my name is Tony Penberthy
