Jimmy's Humboldt "Battle of the Bullring" 2017 Experience Starts NOW!!!

Debbie Cummins

Bomber Momma #19
Yes, it's that time of year again when Jimmy and the "618 boys" head west to Humboldt, Kansas, for the 3rd Annual "Battle of the Bullring" B-Mod races. Tonight (Wednesday, March 8th) is Practice night. The races start on Thursday night, Friday night, and hopefully on Saturday night, weather permitting. The regulars all went to this event: Jimmy Cummins and his faithful pit crew chief Bruce, Robbie and Ryan Eilers, Steve Maisel, and Doug Tye, in "abc" order. .

Jimmy just texted me that they are now in Kansas, with Steve already, there, Doug behind them, and Robbie in "stealth mode".

At home here, I have the "dogs". This year there are 3 of them, since Jimmy found himself a "new puppy" to bring home. Lucky me! We played outside and dug up some flowerbeds, enjoyed the sunshine, and now we're all lying down for naptime. My Buddy is really sticking close to me so I don't get too many "kisses" from that new guy.

Jimmy thinks we can watch practice sessions tonight for free on
racindirt.com. More later.

Jimmy drew pill numbers 97 and 122 out of 130 for practice tonight. He'd better get that kind of stuff out of his system tonight!

I actually took all 3 dogs for a walk around the block TOGETHER!!! We survived!

Bruce just called. They are finished with practice. The car was OK, but not "great". They made some changes but still weren't happy. The track was worked but got slick from all the cars on it. Bruce was timing Jimmy and he said he was only about a 1/2 second off the fastest cars but everybody seemed to be experiencing the same difficulties with the track and tires. Robbie had the same "problems".

Ryan Eilers won't be there until Thursday. Steve Maisel & Shad and Doug Tye are all parked right around Jimmy & Bruce with Robbie very near. So that's good that they are all close to each other.

Bruce said the free food for the drivers didn't pan out so he was going to go ask Steve and Doug if they wanted anything to eat. I guess they will eventually go back to the hotels in Chanute for the night.

The dogs and I are doing very well. No problems, no fights; they all ate their supper in the same room without incidence and then wanted more. I think I wore them out with that walk and being outside most of the day, no puppy naps all day long.

Bruce was even able to FaceTime our grandsons for a bit and that made one little 5-year-old very happy.

More on Thursday....

One more phone call from Bruce and Jimmy tonight. They are back at the hotel. They probably stayed at the track until about midnight talking over "stuff". They repeated how "slick" the track was. It hampered everybody...Steve, Doug, and Robbie all said the same thing. Bruce said that Robbie Eilers went into one corner and slid all the way up almost into the wall. Bruce saw it and thought he was a goner! Robbie told them afterwards that he saw the world before him and knew if he had hit the wall he was going home, but he got out of it unscathed, just raw nerves!

One time out with the doggies and I'm calling it a night.

Jimmy and Bruce had their complimentary breakfast at the hotel, picked up Doug from the hotel across the street, and headed to the track this morning. They like the breakfast there, I think, as they have stayed at this same hotel for 3 years now. Jimmy said it was raining there this morning, but it quit as they got to the track.

Today is "TECH DAY" in the pits and all 4 of our racers passed tech: Jimmy, Doug, Robbie, and Steve. Ryan Eilers isn't there yet, Jimmy said, but will be by tonight. I think Doug was probably first through, then Jimmy, and Robbie, and Steve was last today. No practice tonight....just racing immediately! Ryan better be on his game, but I'm sure he will be.

Bruce is baking potatoes in the microwave and reheating pork steaks that he BBQ'd the other day for lunch, with salad. They're eating well, as Bruce cleaned out most of my food from the fridge. I have to ask him what the menu offering is each day, you know. Yesterday they had some of that delicious Papa Vito's pizza with salad. They took roast beef sandwiches for the ride from a roast I made on Monday, and pulled pork for sandwiches that I made on Tuesday. Bruce left me some pulled pork but he took all the buns and the last of the pork steaks! Dang it, Bruce!

I'm working outside in the beautiful weather while I keep the doggies company. We had one skirmish last night, but all ended well when I knocked Boon off his attack mode with the pantry door. It was Boon and "Tuffy" (my new name for the little dog, as he has a "tuff" of hair on his back and he's made of tough stuff to survive his early life), Buddy was not involved this time.

More later as I hear...

OK, I got the pill number info wrong yesterday. The 97 is his pill draw for tonight and the 122 is Jimmy's number for Friday night. He could have been a little nicer and explained it to me.

This just in....Jimmy was in heat 1. He started 12th and got 6th. He said it was muddy.

Steve Maisel is in Heat 5; Robbie, Ryan, and Doug are all in Heat 10. Wow!

Change that result from Jimmy's heat race. He sent me a later text that said "Guess I got 7th. I was door to door for 5th at the white flag." According to Bruce, Jimmy was running the bottom, moving forward, guy next to him came down and Jimmy came up, they hit, and Jimmy lost a spot." Jimmy starts on the pole of the next Heat 9 in the next set of heats races.

Bruce just called with more news: Steve Maisel finished 7th. He got up to 4th, got spun, went to the rear, and got back up to 7th.

Ryan Eilers finished 2nd, Robbie finished 4th, and Doug was last in the 10th Heat race. Bruce said Doug got bumped around, then his RR went flat after being hit.

Bruce says this whole night is about accumulating passing points. They run 2 sets of heat races tonight and 2 sets of heat races again tomorrow night. After Friday night's 2 sets of heat races, the top 12 in passing points are locked into the big race on Saturday. Then on Saturday, they fill the remaining spots with a series of 7 B-Mains. Bruce says there are about 125 B-Mods there.

Robbie Eilers won heat race 3 in the 2nd set . He started 4th and won it!

Ryan starts 6th in heat race 5. Doug Tye starts 9th in heat race 8. Jimmy starts on the pole in heat race 9. Steve Maisel starts 6th in the 10th heat race.

News Flash: Ryan Eilers got the win in the first set of heat races where he finished 2nd. Winner was DQ'd for chip rule violation.

Thank you for the updates. We were unable to go this year. One of our crew guys (partly owns the car), was expecting a grand-daughter.

Bruce just called me. The news is not good for my Jimmy. His set-up was wrong, the car was sliding and he went backwards. He pulled off. This is tough racing!

Steve Maisel ran 4th. Bruce said the track is glazed.

Doug Tye spun out and went to the back. Not a good night for him either.

Ryan Eilers ran 2nd in his last race and like I said a few posts up, Robbie won his last race. A very good night for both Eilers!

Tomorrow is another chance. :( ;)

Humboldt Speedway just posted on their Facebook page...

We have decided to move the races ahead 30 minutes for today due to temperature. So drivers meeting will be at 5:30, hotlaps at 6, and racing at 6:30. We will... NOT be racing Saturday night, due to the forecasted weather. All events from Saturday will now be Sunday afternoon, pit meeting at 1, mod hotlaps at 1:30, and racing at 2. We want to run through Sunday as fast as possible to get all of you home. Please like and share this post

So Bruce and Jimmy better book their room for another night. I don't think Jimmy is very happy but I also don't think there would be many people in the stands on Saturday night. You can't make the payout without butts in the seats and that additional revenue.

OK, they have started and I'm having computer troubles, but I'll try to catch you up.

At tech today, Ryan Eilers was DQ'd for valve springs. He was 2nd in points. I asked Jimmy how many they checked and he said they teched the top 4 in points. Ryan changed the valve springs and has to start all over in points again tonight.

Jimmy was in the 1st heat race tonight, started 3rd. He did all kinds of work on the car today and changed a lot of stuff only to be put out first on a "slimey $hit track" as he put it. He finished 4th, so it wasn't all that bad.

Steve Maisel starts 11th and Robbie Eilers starts 8th in heat 4.
Doug Tye starts 11th in heat 5.
Ryan Eilers starts 6th in heat 9.

I don't know any other results, but Jimmy sent me a text saying....In the 2nd set of heat races, Steve Maisel starts front row in heat 4. Jimmy starts 5th row heat 10.

Robbie Eilers won his heat race!!!! It was pretty! (I watched Jason Tye's video on my phone) Robbie started 5th, but not all the cars scheduled to start were in the race. Nice win!!! When I figured out who was who, he was running 3rd, then 2nd, and then took the lead.

Not all the cars are starting the 2nd set of heat races. Announcers are saying that 8 or 9 out of 12 cars are starting the 2nd set of races.
