If yall dont mind, I would like to share with you all a very special night of racing coming up this Friday night at Doe Run Raceway.
Josh Jarrett was a very special young man. He faced health problems that began way too soon. At the age of 1, his skin began to change color (jaundice). He was diagnosed with bileria atresia. It's a disorder that causes the liver to fail. Josh would need a transplant. While on the waiting list, his heart began to fail. He would now need a heart transplant also.
Josh had to under go two separate major transplants at two separate times. The doctors gave him a 5% chance of survival.
Fast forward - Josh began to make national headlines as the doctors were amazed at his recovery. He went on to graduate high school and chase his dreams, working on cars, restoring classic vehicles... He built his own truck, and began racing dirt cars. Josh became a part of our racing family and began racing his #21 MiniStock at Doe Run Raceway.
A few years ago, after beating all the odds, devastation of sickness struck again. Josh was diagnosed with lymphoma. Doctors told Josh the cancer is likely a direct result from the anti-rejection drugs he has taken everyday since his transplant surgeries.
I remember standing in the doorway of the tower at DRR, and seeing Josh's car pull thru the gate. Hauled in by his father and brother. But no Josh. Then, right before hot laps began, here he comes - straight from the hospital where he got his chemo treatments. Yes, he would go every Friday, then come straight from the hospital to the race track with enough time to suit up and strap in.
He was strong. You knew he was tired, completely exhausted, but you could not tell it by the big glowing smile on his face. He was strong and happy.
I remember the night that I had the honor of announcing that the cancer was GONE! That was an awesome feeling just to be able to share the great news with the crowd. What an awesome night that was.
Then a few weeks after the season ended, Josh got sick again. This one hit hard and fast.
Sadly, on Wednesday, October 24, Josh passed away at the age of 23.

This Friday, August 30th, we will celebrate Josh's life with a special MiniStock race, just the way he would have wanted it. There will also be a ceremony during intermission in honor of Josh.
