ST. LOUIS, MO (July 21st, 2008) -- Lucas traveled to Richmond, KY on July 18th for the Battle of the Bluegrass event at Richmond Raceway. Lucas started off his night with a solid top ten qualifying run. With 33 cars on hand for the event equally divided into four heat races this put Josh in the second row for the start of his heat race. This did not slow him down at all as he powered past the front row and was able to grab the heat race win and a strong starting position for the feature event.
Lucas was able to grab the lead right off the bat for the 20 lap main event. However, Lucas would not hold the lead for long as Joey Kramer made a three-wide move for the lead splitting Lucas and Roberson giving Kramer the lead going into turn three followed by Roberson and Lucas. Many caution flags kept the field in a tight pack, this would work to Kelly Warren's advantage as he would grab the third spot from Lucas on the lap 6 restart. Then, Lucas would lose another spot on the lap 7 restart to Skylar Marlar putting Lucas in the fifth position. However, just a few laps later Marler would pull to the pits with mechanical problems forfeiting the fourth spot back to Lucas.
The battle soon heated up for the third spot, while Don Adams pressured Lucas for fourth, Lucas also had his eyes on Warren for third. Just when you thought the action was coming to a close Warren's car rolls to a hault in turn four with right front suspension damage leaving a two lap shootout for the $1,500 check. On the restart the leaders would run off but the real battle was third thru fifth as you could put a blanket over all three of them. At the line Joey Kramer took the check while Dennis Roberson followed for a close second, Josh Lucas was able to hold on to the third position while Russ Gabbert took fourth in a photo finish over Don Adams.
