(ASHLAND, KENTUCKY) Josh McGuire and the Josh McGuire Racing team picked up
their third win this month and the second at the Rocky Top Raceway in Coal
Grove, Ohio last Friday evening, May 19. Josh set a new track record in
qualifying by blistering a lap of 13.415 around the ultra-fast southern Ohio
oval. He then finished second to Randy Boggs in the dash to earn the
outside pole position for the A-Main. Josh nailed the setup on his #41
Rayburn entry and captured the feature win ahead of a star-studded field
which included Jackie Boggs, Randy Boggs, and several others!
The Ashland, Kentucky native was then focused on winning his second straight
A-Main at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on Saturday.
However, Josh came up just a bit shy on his bid to go two-for-two at PRP on
the year, as he finished fourth in the final rundown of the $2,000 to win
event. In preliminary action, Josh set another track record by touring the
3/8-mile oval in 14.25 seconds. He then finished third in the dash to earn
the inside second row starting spot for the A-Main.
“Our C.J. Rayburn racecar is handling great right now and our Gaerte motor
is providing a tremendous amount of power, which is evident by those two
track records last weekend,” McGuire commented following his strong weekend.
“We had a great car at Rocky Top on Friday night and were able to lead
every lap of the feature to get the win. I would have liked to have won
Portsmouth on Saturday night, but Jackie (Boggs) had other ideas. I don’t
know if we would have won if he hadn’t got into us, but I think our car was
strong enough to compete for the win. It was still a good weekend overall
and I am looking forward to all of the races we have ahead on our schedule.”
