(Warrensburg, MO) Severe weather threatened many Kansas City area tracks on Saturday night, but the season opener weather was perfect at Central Missouri Speedway on KOKO radio race night. Local race fans and drivers were pleased to be racing once again in Warrensburg at Earl and Susan Wall’s race facility after it appeared the track would not be open for weekly racing in 2009.

The racing action matched the early season excitement with Basehor, Kansas driver Tim Karrick winning the first modified feature of the season. In the B-Modifieds it was the second year driver from Oak Grove, Jacob Ebert with his first-ever feature win. The Street Stocks went without a yellow flag the entire race when Warrensburg driver, Chad Eickleberry drove his car into victory lane for his feature win.

The B-Modifieds were first on the track with the 2008 top rookie points driver, Bryan Montgomery taking the first heat race. Chris Brockway showed the field how to handle the smooth tacky clay surface with a heat race number two checkered flag win. In the feature event, Montgomery led the field around the early circuits with the lead however; Jacob Ebert and John Brooks started to move up into contention as they battled behind him. Ebert then passed Montgomery on lap five to take the lead. Brooks moved up into the second position and challenged Ebert on the high and low side without enough traction to move around him. Brooks did manage to get around Ebert after a caution on lap thirteen and appeared to win the feature event. Then Brooks did not pass the post race technical inspection so the determination was made to grant the victory to Ebert for this first-ever feature win at CMS. Montgomery moved up into second with Lucas Isaacs celebrating his birthday in style for third, Michael King fourth and Brian Ziegler rounding out the top five.

The Street Stocks put on a good show with Chad Eickleberry taking the checkers during the heat race placing him on the pole for the feature. Eickleberry lead the field throughout the entire race with moving up through the field to battle for second with Michael Mullins who looked strong in the Steve Hisle owned car. On lap eleven it appeared Carter might move around Mullins for second, but Mullins held on to the second spot. In the end, Eickleberry was too strong for everyone and won his 19th career feature at the track. Mullins takes second with a hard driving Carter in third, Brain Johnson settles for fourth and Nic Bennett the 2008 points champion in fifth. It was great to see John Ebert and Stacy Scherer in the familiar Red Brush Racing Team red and yellow cars finishing the race.

The ‘mighty’ modifieds were strong once again at CMS with 24 modifieds checked in for the weekly $1000 first place prize money. The heat races were packed with action all over the track with Jason Thompson crossing the line in first for the first heat win. Dean Wille from Warrensburg takes the checkers in heat race number two for the victory. Heat race number three looked like a trophy dash with Tim Karrick coming out on top in a thrilling heat win just ahead of Jim Moody. The feature was another CMS classic with Thompson taking the early lead until they encountered lapped traffic on lap six. On lap seven, Ralph King departed turn two bringing out the yellow flag. Karrick then worked the high side past Thompson for the lead and never relinquished the top spot. James McMillin, Jim Moody and Dean Wille all looked strong throughout the race in the top five spots. Then Karrick hangs on for the first modified feature win this season with Thompson second, McMillin third, Moody fourth and Wille fifth. The hard charger award of the night goes to Dennis Walrath coming from a 23rd starting position after some car problems in the pits to an amazing eighth place finish.
