MACON – Macon Speedway featured it’s first NASCAR Night of Stars of the season Saturday night. All of tonight’s events were sponsored by the U.S. Army, celebrating their 23rd birthday this week. NASCAR stars from the Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Craftsman Truck Series all came down to Macon for a chance at the fastest 1/5 mile. Track co-owners Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace worked hard to bring home a huge field of drivers to run their very own Modified series. Along with Steven, Mike and Kenny Wallace, NASCAR stars Michael Waltrip, Kyle Busch, Bobby Labonte, David Reutiman, Michael McDowell, David Stremme, Jason Leffler and others were on hand to give the loyal Macon Speedway fans a show.

Even Rusty Wallace was on hand to announce a few of the races. ESPN and Speed TV both had crews at the track. ESPN broadcast there program “NASCAR Now” live from Macon and Speed TV recorded all the races for a future broadcast.

Matt Johnson from Dalton won the silent auction for a ride with Kyle Busch. Johnson put in a bid of $1,300 to take the Macon Speedway two-seat Late Model out with Busch at the wheel. The proceeds of the Auction go to the Kyle Busch foundation.

Track co-owners finished one-two in the Modified NASCAR star feature. Ken Schrader worked his way through the field. He had to pass plenty of great drivers to take the win on his home track. Kenny Wallace tried to stick to the bottom to hold onto the lead but Schrader had the high line down to a science. Steven Wallace worked his way up to third and David Stremme finished in fourth.

Buzzy Reutiman, father of David, led the race early, at one point leading by half a lap. But a flat left front tire dropped him back into the clutches of the field. Reutiman finished in fifth.
The local Sportsman and Street Stock cars were on hand as well. Mike Pickering won from the front in the Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman feature. Pickering had a huge lead on the field until lapped traffic allowed Joel Funk to catch up. But Pickering’s fast high-line was too much for Funk to challenge. Jeff Graham hung with the leaders and finished in third.

Decatur’s Al Crawley won his first race of the season. Crawley had a Modified feature win last season and is sporting a new Street Stock this year. Fan favorite Steve Ewing had the car to win, but the veteran Crawley knew all the right moves to keep Ewing in second.
