April 9, 2004-Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway kicks off the special events schedule of the KLMS 2004 racing season in style with the running of the Dodge Mopar 50 for late models April 16 and 17. The 50 lap late model feature race on Saturday night will pay $15,000 to win! In addition, some lucky race fan will be the recipient of an exciting giveaway at the racetrack on Saturday night, courtesy of local Dodge dealers and Daimler Chrysler Corporation.

Many of the nation’s top late model stars are expected to visit the three-eighths high banked clay oval seeking the $15,000 first prize, and they will be joined by many of the top local and area late model drivers as well.

Late models are scheduled to practice, qualify and run heat race events on Friday night to qualify for the Mopar 50. In addition, there will be a late model feature race Firday night that pays $2000 to the winner.

On Saturday, the late models will get a brief practice session before a $1500 to win race is run for the top 24 cars that have not qualified for the Dodge Mopar 50 lap event. The last late model event scheduled for Saturday night is the big 50 lap Dodge Mopar event, paying $15,000 to the winner.

A full program of racing for Kentucky Lake’s other classes is on tap for both Friday and Saturday nights as well, featuring open wheel UMP Modifieds, the steel block late model class, and the pure stocks. The open wheel modifieds and steel block late models will have extra incentive on Saturday night, as their feature events pay $1000 to win!

Saturday night will see a unique promotional event at KLMS, as a Dodge pickup truck will be given away to some lucky race fan, courtesy of local Dodge dealers and the Daimler Chrysler Corporation.

This is the first of many special events in a stellar schedule for Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in 2004, a year that will see visits to the track by the O’Reilly World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series, and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, as well as the UMP Challenge of Champions and Summernational series, and the Midwest Sprint Car Series. The end of the 2004 racing season will see the 8th annual Commonwealth Cup for Late Models in October, with various sponsored nights for the weekly shows throughout the year.
