Williamsburg, OH-August 29, 2008- The Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Open Wheel Modified division presented by Graphic Impressions made its first-ever visit to the state of Ohio on Friday evening for the Buddy Cook Memorial at Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, OH and Joey Kramer of Hanover, IN would continue his winning ways with the “BoB Mod Squad” for 2008 by picking up his ninth series victory of the season and the $1,500 payday.

Kramer’s victory marked 22nd career A-Main win with the series. The winner’s machine is a Lightning Chassis, powered by a Bullock by Kramer Race Engine and receives sponsorship from Fox Custom Cabinets, Wild’s Restoration Service, Larry’s Truck Service, Hill’s Historic Painting, Bright Beginnings Child Care, SuperATV.com, and State Farm Insurance. Product support for Kramer’s winning mount comes from PBM Performance Products, AFCO Race Products, NAPA, and Valvoline.

Brandon Green of Walton, KY would take runner-up honors in the 30 lap Buddy Cook Memorial A-Main event, while Josh Lucas of Bardstown, KY would score another top five finish with his third place performance for the evening. The remainder of the top five positions would fall to Moler Raceway Park regular competitors in Rick Bingham and Carter Jones.

The remainder of the top ten finishers in the 30 lap, $1,500 event were Shane Mugavin, 22nd starting Bruce Gould III, Don Adams, 21st starter Kelly Warren, and veteran Bud Frazier. The race would be slowed by four caution periods.

The caution flag would fly before one lap was completed as a multi-car incident would bring an early end to the evening for Brad Wieck and Ryan Thomas. Once action got underway, Joey Kramer would rocket to the lead, followed by Josh Lucas, Rick Bingham, Brandon Green, and Carter Jones. Mick Sansom would slow on lap 2 and draw the next caution and roll pitside for the rest of the event. Back underway, Kramer would continue to hold the top spot, with Lucas and Green battling for the second position, with Bingham and Jones in a tussle for fourth. Shane Mugavin would start to move around lap 5 and would take the fifth spot from Jones on lap 7, only to have Jones retake the spot one circuit later on lap 8. The faceoff for second would heat up at this point between Lucas and Green, with Green finally sliding past Lucas for second lap 10.

As Kramer would begin to roll away a bit from the pack, Bingham would take third from Lucas on lap 11, while Jones held on to the fifth spot. The next caution to slow the action flew on lap 14 when Cody Hood would slow on the racing surface and proceed to pull pitside for the evening. Back underway, Green would pressure Kramer for the top spot, while Lucas would challenge Bingham for third. As the field saw the halfway signal on lap 15, Lucas would grab the third spot back away from Bingham, while Green continued to dog Kramer for the top spot. The final caution of the race waved on lap 18 when Troy Whitaker slowed on the track.

The final ten laps would see Kramer break away from Green and turn in another winning performance on the Battle of the Bluegrass Modified tour, with Green, Lucas, Bingham, and Jones completing the top five at the drop of the checkered flag.

In preliminary action, Kelly Warren was top qualifier among 32 entries with a lap time of 13.913 seconds. Qualifying heat checkered flags would go to Bingham in Wayne Bowen Racing Supply heat one, Kramer in K&N Performance Engineering heat two, Brad Wieck in Graphic Impressions heat three, and Jones in Real Racing Wheels heat four. Ryan Thomas and Troy Whitaker were the B-Main winners, while Kelly Warren (series) and Bruce Gould III (on time) would earn series provisionals.

The next event for the Modified division of the Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series will be on Saturday September 13 at the Gary Hall promoted Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN. The race will be the highest paying to win event for the “BoB Mod Squad” in 2008, as the winner will walk away with $5,000 from the 1/3 mile high-banked East Tennessee red clay oval.
