Kramer Captures 2nd Annual NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series Pepsi Showdown at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY (October 6) Current NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series Points Leader and defending Champion Joey Kramer of Hanover, IN would claim the $1,500 payday in the 2nd annual Pepsi Showdown at the Ponderosa Speedway on Friday night marking his second consecutive win in the annual event

The NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series O'Reilly A-Main would see Victor Lee take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Jimmy Payne, Joey Kramer, Russ Gabbert, and Brandon Green giving chase. Kramer would challenge Payne for second on laps 2 through 5, but could not make the pass, as Lee opened a bit of a lead and would start lapping slower cars on lap 6. On that same circuit, Kramer would slip past Payne for the runner-up slot and would start to slowly reel in race leader Lee.

Lap 10 would see the first caution of the race as Dustin Linville and Jay Mobley would spin in turn two. The lap 10 restart would see the demise of race leader Lee as he slowed with mechanical problems on his mount and would pull pitside for the evening. This turn of events would place Kramer on the point, with Payne, Gabbert, Green, and Miguel Coffey making up the rest of the top five.

The front five would remain the same until the caution flag again slowed the action on lap 16 as Jay Mobley, Zane Morgan, and J.T. Ayers would tangle in turn two. The restart would see Kramer and Payne go at it for the top spot, with this pair putting a bit of distance between themselves and third place running Gabbert.

The caution again waved on lap 21 to slow the pace as J.T. Ayers would loop his entry in turn four. The restart would only get one more circuit scored as the caution would appear for debris. During the caution period, second place Payne would pull to the hot pit area with a flat left tire, get fresh rubber, and return to action. This restart would be voided when Scotty Kincaid would spin in turn four before a complete lap was scored.

On the final restart of the race Kramer would roll away from the pack and claim the victory in the D. Kramer owned Wild's Restoration Service/Hill's Historic Painting/Super Shine Auto Detail and Window Tint/PBM Performance Products/Bilstein Shocks sponsored #77 Lightning Chassis, Kramer Race Engine powered entry. Gabbert would take second, while Brandon Green slowed on the final lap with mechanical issues, allowing Coffey, 16th starter Don Adams, and 17th starter Kelly Warren to race past to complete the top five. Dustin Linville would recover from his lap 9 spin to head up the second five at the finish, trailed by Green, Shon Flanery, 19th starter Dennis Barton, and Jay Mobley.

Twenty-seven entries would see Kramer claim the Racing Optics Fast Time award with a 14.539 second qualifying lap.

Heat wins were taken by Gabbert, Victor Lee, and Payne, while Don Adams won the B-Main. Series provisional starting spots went to Dennis Barton and Larry Moreland, while track provisional starters were Shane McKinney and Ricky Lane.
