Lake Hill Speedway?

Cool shots but the one of how it looks today is real old. we gave the old place a make over for the reunion a few years back. Although it's starting to grow back :(

Track has already been removed! I loved it when, dad took me there at age 8. Believe me it was sad to see :(
Are you kidding? Was there at the start of the summer and the track was back under water and the grass was popping up though the rocks. If so bummer. Someone must be building there because Kim said he will not remove the track unless there is no chance to keep the place as some kinda racing history thing.

I hate to say, but yea !
The track is still there. I don't know where dartwithoutfeathers got his info but as of Aug 8, 2009 the track was just like I left it back in November 2007 at the reunion.

The track has filled back up with water but the blacktop is still untouched from what I can tell.

Lots of weeds growing around the track and in the cracks. But the the track is there...............

Just thought everyone would love to know this info.
Made my day !

Ya I was around there just last week and it looks like we never touched the place. Hopefully if the water stays in the track it will preserve it like it did before. I will give kim a call and see what the word is now. stay tuned might take some time.

I just heard from a friend of a friend that weeds were being cut and things were being cleaned up recently. Any confirmation? Could just be general maintenance I suppose.

Hi,

I grew up going to a dirt track race track in St. Charles every Sunday. I am interested in finding out a little more about Lake Hill Speedway.

The previous owner - does anyone know if he has images of the old track?

I am asking on behalf of a magazine that celebrates the history of the St. Louis Metro area(Flashback Magazine). I would love to incorporate Lake Hill's history and images in our April Issue.

You guys talk about all these NASCAR guys - are there images of them racing there?

I will try and contact people specifically - but I would love to get permission to use some of these images. Please contact me if you have images you would like to submit, or if you want to let me know I have permission to use the images you posted in this thread.

In one of the many posts I saw mentioned Harold Workman and Bill Workman. Actually it was Harold and Don Workman not Bill. They were always driving some of the best looking and fast late models back in the day. Don just passed away in recent years.
You are correct it was my grandfather Harold and Don. Harold passed away a few years ago now. He moved back to the city he loved to live out his few months.

1973 I was a senoir in high school and I worked at the Sunoco station at Big Bend & Elm in webster Groves and every sunday afternoon Harold Workman would pull in and gas his camaro late model up with 260. He towed on an open trailer with if I remember right a spotless white cadilac and the crew with him wore white uniforms. Not sure where he lived at the time but it had to be the Kirkwood/webster/crestwood area. I do know for a fact that he lived/Lives in the Kirkwood/Sunset Hills area after he quit driving. For the folks who never got to see this guy run Let me tell you he was impressive.
I'm very happy you got to witness what I've heard stories about for years. If I'm not mistaken he was transporting his race cars with his ranchero. I will find my photos from back then and see. I met Kenny Wallace a few years back with the photos of my grandpa racing back in the day. He told me stories about how he's cars were always pretty. He passed away at 92 and still remembered his racing like it was yesterday.
