Lake Hill Speedway?

I for one dont think you are far off on any of this. The racing fans want to see the place stay as is for all the memories plus have an option to visit the museum is a great idea.Maybe a every years reunion dedicate a part of the museum to one of our great local racers and do the same year after year. You also give some great ideas for making some money for the site also all of which sound doable.Plus race fans are very loyal and very willing to help when needed as we have all seen when this topic came up years ago.I think with a little bit of tweeking this place can be preserved forever for all ages to enjoy.I for one have only been a race fan for 8 or so years but really enjoy hearing the stories and looking at the pictures from there.

Are you a member of the St. Louis Auto Racing Fan Club? If not, you should be.

The Fan Club is working on a Midwest Motorsports Museum and Hall of Fame. Which would have most of the museum components you've mentioned.

The next general membership meeting is Sunday, December 14 at O'Leary's off Lindbergh just south of I-44. You can visit with Joyce Standridge and pick up her new book, shop for Lake Hill Speedway merchandise, and hang out with the best race fans ever.

You can also talk to the officers, share your ideas, and tell them how you're willing to help make it happen.

Happy Holidays!

Thanks

Thank you for that informatiion. No, I am not a member of that organization, but I have heard of this group for as many years as I can remember I am glad to hear that there is a group getting involved to try and save the place or at least try to start a movement to do so.
I have to go to the airport on Dec.14 to drop off the Senior Chief Petty Officer, (bro. in law) in the family, for him and wife to fly back to Calif. BUT!!!. What time is the meeting at O'Learys??? I would love to attend and see whats going on with the plans you spoke of !! Merry Christmas to you, too!!

Everything you have said has a chance, two major things to overcome, 1) It's in a flood plain, 2) The entrance will need to be widen (as the town of Fenton has already told KEG, 3) A second entrance will need to be put in for fire & rescue. KEG has like you said has put a lot of time and work into the place and I'm beting it will not be a strip mall, What are you thinking bigeval? Don't give them idea's. It sits between 2 railroad tracks so I think a mall idea will not work. As KEG has told me, he needs a lot of investors to get involved on this before he or they can go to the town of Fenton with a for real shot at something. I hope the St. Louis Auto Racing Fan Club knows more on the old track and the chances of all of this becoming a real chance. I'm sure at this point if there is anything in the works it's husch, husch at this point.

THANKS, DUANE

flood plain

Flood Plain= bad news-maybe,,means the CORP OF ENGINEERS are going to get involved. no matter what. (better them then the I R S )You cannot move a shovel full of dirt nor can you truck any fill of any kind into any area designated as a flood plain, for development, without there approval. K E G probally has all the dope on this junk.(I 've had some dealings with the CORP in a land deal I did years ago, that one turned out O K. trust me, it's gets expensive )

Bridge--- shucks, maybe they would let the development keep the old bridge as a walk bridge??---
I guess it would be kind of hard getting a hook and ladder fire truck across the little bridge!!OK we'll need a new bridge.. I'am getting cold feet when I start think of all the preliminary cost involved in just getting the permit to build from BIG BROTHER at Fenton city hall. The engineering/surveying cost alone are going to be out of sight.

BE it far from me to throw water on this venture!!!
Heck, I want it to become reality as all you others on here!!!
Just the facts mam, just the facts!!!!!!!!!!Let us continue!!!!!

Fan club meeting

The next Fan club meeting is Dec. 14 at O'Leary's in Sunset hIlls. Meeting Starts at 2:00 p.m. All our meetings are open to whoever wants to come. Standing invitation. We will have a short meeting to fill people in on the Banquet of Champions plans and answer what ever questions anyone has that we know the answers to. If the Museum idea is brought up we can discuss that also. At this time the FC is still working out the 501c3 deal for donations to the museum. We have started a fund (10% of our membership dues goes into the Museum fund). We are asking for ideas about what people want to museum to be like (only printed materials--race car displays--rebuilding race cars--etc.?) We have had several car owners promise us cars when we get th museum up and running. WE have only been working on this for 1 year and the end is not in sight.
Joyce Standridge and the Horcher Bros. photographers will be there to talk about her new book about Sprint Car Racing--Wear It or Win It and she will autograph copies you bring in, if any. If you haven't bought a copy she will have some to sell at $24.95 and she and the Horchers will autograph them. Great Xmas gift idea. We still have a few Lake Hill DVDs that you can purchase and also t-shirts/sweatshirts.
We will have some Christmas cookies and you can purchase drinks and sandwiches from O'Leary's. Sound good? Come on in. Wanda -FC Membership Secretary

The Fan Club membership is $20 per person or family (mom and dad and all the kids under 16).

You'll receive 4 newsletters, discounts to area tracks (don't forget to thank the promoters and track operators who make those discounts possible), email blasts, membership card, decal, etc.

Visit www.stlfanclub.com for all the details. Check out the photos, the information on the 42nd Annual Banquet of Champions, and the Lake Hill Speedway merchandise.

Meeting

Meeting time for the FC at 2:00pm is a good thing!!!!!
The real good news is that the current officers and members of the FC have taken the bull by the horns and run with it . It would appear to me that directing our energy into one path ,using the existing organization/structure of the FC , is the corrrect way to proceed..JMO

Trip to O'leary's from Farmington--$25.00
Lunch cost at O'leary's----$25.00----
DVD of Lake Hill reunion----PRICELESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't wait to buy my copy!!!!!

just a note, lake hill is in VALLEY PARK not FENTON. i would love it if it could be opened back up but that will never happen. the city limits of manchester is just north of the track and they would fight it for sure. by road i am 7 miles from there. and about 2 miles by river. :D i would love to be able to walk out the door on saturday nights and hear it again. although that wouldnt happen because chances are i would be there or i 55.:D

don't mind kent his sense of direction is a lil off being a bus rider and all just kidding kent and gang
Vally Park / Fenton what ever. My sence of town names might be a little off but I do know where it is. Thanks for the info though. I think everyone got my point. Hay Dirt Hound lets get one thing straight, your little quotes are going to get you in trouble some day soon. Don't think I forgot your comment during the election about the chittlens and chicken some people eat. (You know what I mean) That guy still wants to meet you about that. The only thing that keeps you two apart is ME, So a quick thought Stop saying things you might regret later.
Now I'm done with that clown, Back to Lake Hill, There will need to be a lot of money spent just to get the ground workable to build on to meet VALLY PARKS requirements but I quess we will see what happens. :D

Of course, I meant Valley Park!!

Ok ok, I make one little slip up and you guys are right on it!!!!!!Of course the Hill is in Valley Park, how silly of me!!!! whac ya expect of a ole fart like myself!!

Hey, I do remember the phone number of the HILL---------VA5-8869----I called it so many times as a young lad to check if they were rained out on Sunday nights!!!!!

No matter the outcome of whatever decision is made regarding the hill, one thing is for sure. If some type of racing museum and or small amuseent park were created on the grounds, just breathing life into the old track would be well worth it. I would make the 70 mile drive to go there.

there is no doubt that this is most poplar post on here but the ole track is very poplar with great memories and would most likely do good if it was to reopen ( that would be a dream come true) maybe do like kentucky lake speedway have 2 or 4 races there a year but make them goodones if there is another renunion planned please let me and all of us know i would be there with my car just get some pics there. it has been over 40 yrs since i have been there but never forgot my first races there with my mom and dad each week they ran. and i even remember where we use to sit.(thats bad) if things get to happen again let us all know. i will be there with my car and camera. p.s. pm me where you can get a dvd of the renunion thx all
