Lake Ozark Speedway not opening in 2011

Found this on Lake Ozark's website! Can't believe this hasn't been talked about already!

G & G Ozark Motorsports Ceases Operations at Lake Ozark Speedway

Release date: March 1, 2011
G & G Ozark Motorsports Inc.

ST. LOUIS (March 1, 2011) – G & G Ozark Motorsports Inc., released the following statement today:

After much consideration, analysis and heartfelt deliberation, we have decided to cease operations at the dirt track at Lake Ozark Speedway, effective March 1, 2011.

During the off-season, the Gundakers had hoped to find a buyer or a promoter to lease the facility for the 2011 season. Owning two facilities has been a challenge over the past four years. When the track was first purchased, we did not foresee that our not being there on a daily basis would have such an impact on the facility. We do not have the opportunity to be a part of the day-to-day operations throughout the week and have found that in order to do it right you need to be there from many aspects, including track prep, maintenance and marketing.

We are currently looking for qualified individuals to lease or purchase the facility.

For more information please contact G & G Ozark Motorports, Inc. at 636-448-9111.

We would like to Thank the fans, sponsors, drivers and their crews for their support over the past 4 seasons.

Sincerely,

Gordon & Kevin Gundaker
G & G Ozark Motorsports, Inc

That explains the Jesse Hockett memorial being moved. We are sure going to miss that place and the friends we made in the grandstands.

Calaway is less than 50 mi.
California is maybe 50 but there are shortcuts that might make it actually closer.
Lucas oil is 50mi
Dallas county is around 30mi
Probably best is to look at the track locator on this site. There might be others Im not thinking of.

Westlingracing...thanks for the info. Guess the only good thing about this is these other tracks will have more cars and attendance.

WOW less than a month ago they release a 2011 schedule and now an announcement of business closure? Something big has had to happen to close a business's doors that fast. The press release doesn't add up to me. The Gundakers run a two track operation for four years and then right after they release a timely schedule and immediately close the doors and turn out the lights? That seems a bit hasty to me unless something big time happened. I guess I won't be racing for I refuse to go to the POS Callaway Raceways or drive 2 hours weekly.

Not surprising, now they can focus on Tri City and not worry about the ugly step sister of LOS. Actually surprised it took this long! Made any of my decisions to go to Tri City a lot easier. Just hate it for the racers who had plans of running at LOS and now have to make other plans. Will hurt the sprint guys for sure but hurts all the classes in the end.
We will miss seeing you also 01cratefan, good luck to you all this year.

hey lizard lip

Lizard Lip, I dont agree with the way Callaway does some things, but at least they are still OPEN where 2 big tracks have closed in the past year in mid missouri (Moberly and LOS). I know gas is going up daily, but this is what we enjoy doing and will try to continue to do. I have been going to dirt races for over 40 years back in the St. Charles Speedway days, so on race nights while you are sitting at home playing with your lizard the rest of us that enjoy racing will be out supporting our track that is still open. Remember it is our support that helps keep these tracks open and people in the stands.

Driver shenanigans get cars destroyed pretty regular, Paul makes up rules every week, Betty over rides rulings to fit her own agenda, they have a enormous amount cautions that take way to long to clean up, the tech guys consistently miss things I can see from the stands, the track lighting has problems, serious problems, the lights under the flag stand have been flickering red for about 8 years now. The place is like a bunch of monkeys F ing a football. You know you say you have been attending racing for 40 years and yet you seem to think this place is OK? How could you even think that? I could on and on but my time is worth more than your attitude. Your opinion is like most of the other hill billy monkey spunk over there. It means nothing to me.

Notice that the track locator on this site doesnt show Dallas county in Urbana. Also should note that the tracks in Lebanon are not all that far from Eldon at around 50mi.
Just feel sorry for the Sprints, All the other classes got places within 50 but sprint will have to tour or just run California on Sundays.

i would say callaway does something right since they are still open, getting big weekly crowds and good car counts. Lets not talk **** on the tracks will let us race...JMO

The deal with Callaway is they have a good base of local drivers. Sure the place is about the most Redneck, Good ol'e Boy Track around, but its kept it going for almost 10 years now. And the Car counts are better than they ever been. People in the stands are even larger even with raising the ticket prices last year.
They might pay about the worst payout in the Country but that keeps the money pickers away, even though you still get a few willing to come from Stl. area its because of the UMP sanction. Just enough excitement week to week to keep people coming.
Without all the drama it wouldn't be the same. But I do agree that often it goes too far.
If someone gets banned from the track they USUALLY stick to it. There are a couple guys they consider STARS that can literally get someone KILLED and they would still be there. Still they did better than the Lake did. Several times at the Lake I saw people come to the pits and nothing done, Callaway calls the Cops and its done. Thats a lot of why the Lake didnt get the car counts, I refuse to run at a place that allows either over aggressive drivers or just plain idiots to race. Callaway has at least put a damper on it to some extent. Now the speed of clearing wrecks and sticking to time limits is an issue, way too many times the night extended past midnight. Even with the spin rule it still seemed some races went way too long.

Sorry to hear this about LOS. Obviously, not great news for area racers or race fans. I've worked at a lot of tracks and seen some conditions that needed improvement on and off the track.

But folks, racing with a flickering light and a few bad calls, to me, is a heck of a lot better than a closed race track with no racing at all.

Maybe Mr. Lucas needs another track???????????
