Bardstown, KY-May 18- After being delayed one day by rain, the 1st Annual My Old Kentucky Home Shootout was completed Sunday afternoon at Bluegrass Speedway and it also marked the Northern All Star Late Model Series first visit to Bluegrass in 2003 and with action everywhere (literally), Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY laid claim to the top prize of $5,000 in the 50 lap Late Model main event. Other division winners included Kevin Wilson of Versailles, KY in the Sportsman feature, Bobby Mattingly of Louisville, KY won the Street Stock feature, and Gordon Dixon of Memphis, IN scored the Pro-Truck feature victory.

The Late Model feature would see Tim Tungate and Don O’Neal bring the field to green, with O’Neal grabbing the lead, with Lanigan taking second, with Tungate, Whitney McQueary, and Brad Neat giving chase. O’Neal and Lanigan would quickly scoot away from the rest of the field and by lap 10 had a half-straightaway lead over the rest of the field. Lanigan would close in on O’Neal for the top spot as the lead pair began to work slower traffic on lap 15. Tungate would slip out of the rubber on lap 18 and that let Whitney McQueary take the third spot. The first caution would wave with the field working lap 20 when Dennis Selby slowed at the top of turn three. The restart would see Brad Neat scoot past Tungate for fourth, with Scott James taking fifth from Tungate one circuit later. McQueary and Neat would stay right with the front pair of O’Neal and Lanigan for the next 10 laps, with leaders set to work slower traffic again. Disaster would strike for Brad Neat on lap 34 when he spun in turn two attempting to lap a slower car. This restart would now see fourth place James put the pressure to McQueary for third and would take the spot on lap 36. Dustin Neat would see a good run erased with a turn three spin on lap 37. This restart would see business begin to pick up at the point as Lanigan began to pressure O’Neal and lap 44 would see Lanigan nose past O’Neal for the lead, only to have the pass negated by the final caution flag of the event for Bryan Barber, who stopped on the track in turn two. After a lengthy caution period and the rise of tempers from some, O’Neal resumed his place at the point with Lanigan giving chase, with James now in third. As the top three got set to take the white flag, Lanigan rolled under O’Neal exiting turn four and held the lead into turn one. Lanigan would see the checkered flag first in his Accutex Signs/Lanigan Autosports/ AFCO Racing Products/All Star Performance #29 Rocket Chassis, Cornett Race

Engines entry. O’Neal would take second, with James third, with those two exchanging bumps on the track after the conclusion of the event. McQueary would finish fourth, with Jim Curry rolling up to complete the top five. Tungate, John Gill, Rick Corbin, Steve Barnett, and Jesse James Lay completed the top ten. Thirty-four cars from five states saw Brad Neat as the overall fast qualifier at 17.258 seconds, with the four heat race wins going to Lanigan, O’Neal, McQueary, and Tungate. Mike Jewell won the B-main, with NALMS provisionals going to Mike Hawley and Josh Allison, with Selby taking the track provisional.

Kevin Wilson would be victorious in the 15 lap Sportsman feature behind the wheel of his Wilson Used Auto Parts/McDougal’s Garden Center/NEALCO Electric/Sutherland Brothers Farms/New Look Lawn Care #98 entry over brother Bo Wilson, who would be second. Robert Cocanougher, Roger Cecil, and Kelly Riggs would complete the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Jimmy Bryan, Johnny Lee, Timmy Glazer, Breeze McCormick, and Dale Becht. Barry Chesser would be fast qualifier, with Lee winning the dash, and Derrick Laswell winning the heat.

Defending Street Stock track champion Bobby Mattingly would score the 12 lap Street Stock feature aboard his Cross Construction/Steve Hughes Race Engines/Miller Lite/ McDonald’s Bulldozing/Sav-A-Lot/Tuitt’s Body Shop/Springfield NAPA #3m mount. Clarence Belcher would take runner-up honors, with Daroyl Samples, Dan Bryan, and Johnny Cecil rounding out the top five. Completing the top ten were Garnett Eldridge, Brian McCubbins, Terry Bartley, Michael Coontz, and Paul Moss, Jr. Heats were won by Mattingly and Willie Edelen.

Gordon Dixon won the Pro-Truck 12 lap feature race boot scooting his SKR Cleaning/ Crossroads Trucking/Dixon Racing Supply/A and C Sheet Metal #D2 truck. Tony Fraley, Roger Snell, Jason Miles, and Shane Cole completed the top five.
