Thanks!!

Thanks everybody for the great posts. I ran thru some of the names with my Dad and he remembers alot of the sprint car guys. I believe this brought back alot of good memories for him as well as me. Thanks...:)

Lou Jansen was a really nice guy. Raced hard and was smooth!!!! Chicken farmer and had a nice personality. Him and Bob Whitehead used to let me as i was a kid then sit in their cars. Boy those were the times. Lou Thery was a tough dude. Wore a t shirt driving alcohol mods!!! Arms on him like a monster! Wheeled those cars around and never seemed to sweat.

Rich ritchie, harold bryeans, rod bailley 11b, who was the guy from st. Anne in the mopar that always ran last? 69 9r 70 charger.bill meyer 21
Chuck milam in the burger king car and the uncle wallace in the little debbie car, jerry zeanle in krekelaur jewlers car. I remember once in a late model Main when kevin gundaker came in to pit and had to put his hood back on secured with about 2 rolls of duct tape. He went back out and don ward would not let him continue that way. Kevin revved the motor and acted like he was going to run him over. They banned kevin and his bad ass big block the rest of the season. Now he owns the joint.
If I remember correctly, later that year there was a big WIL radio sponsored race on oct. 1st in 1978 and kevin had larry phillips race his car sans the bigblock in that race. Also i think marty robbins raced also.I remember Toni Izzo from santa fe speedway in chicago area came in a beautiful purple car only to have it get torn up. Mike Wallace had a trick transmission (automatic powerglide) that would shift about halfway down the straightaway. (Ron king, quality transmission, affton, mo car) Wib spaulding with his red hankerchief dust mask. Russ Wallace driving into the corner harder than anyone else. I was on Les Gibsons crew and raced the 87 car a handful of times at tri city and valley park lake hills. What great memories of a fantastic era. Some of the best in my life.

Best post I've read all year. I went to my first race at Walsh Stadium when I was 10 and
only knew car numbers back then. Keep it going, love this exchange of memories.

Gary Gerstner (Gerstner Plumbing) raced late models there also. SARA (Southwestern Auto Racing Association) did a Wednesday night race there for points a couple times for one season. Denny Knebel rolled, Grreg Klein, Donn Evans, all the SARA regulars at the time on the 1/2 mile.

Wayne pride Bob stanton John Mike Jake Tom seets Carson Spaulding Bert griffin Tom Wheeler Don baker Terry bolin Lori roach Betty mckinnon Mel buder

Dave Hollis #22 was paralyzed in an racing accident at Tri-City, mid-1960's. He had been quite a racer previously and a regular at St. Charles, Tri-city...
Hammerman is still driving, just saw him at I-55 last Saturday but, I think his car is about 30 years old.
1960's - wib spalding, chuck taylor, chuck lynch, jim moughan, norm ronamas, dick vance, gene hanner (drove for lou thery), tom smith (his dad pappy smith owned the F-40 which had numerous drivers, bill myers was one), johnny meyers, davey hollis, ray dieterman, charlie booten, fats booten, barney jones, ronnie thompson (A-car division) al king, clyde lindeman (hobby class) mike null (hobby class) c.c.corbin.
1970's - many of the above supermod drivers switched to late-model in the 70's.
1980's - kevin gundaker, mike wallace, bo smith, len gettimeier, seets bros., dick taylor, etc

in 69 I ran a open wheeled car--called them super modifieds--this thing was a death trap--black iron pipe--powered by a 413 mopar--with a ford 3 speed adaptered to it--Charlie booten had a 327 tri power super--ran second to him in the first heat almost all the race--got passed at the flag by a usac dirt champ car (no roll cage just a simple roll bar behind the driver--it was owned by George egan---in the feature I was in the top 10 till the old ford tranny got red hot (on center steer the trans is basically between your legs with your MEN right above it)had to pull in or might not have all the kids I have today LOL--won several features on both tracks--got upside down in turn 4 on the half--got lots more to tell--need to write a book

how ya like my racin bibs---that was the night cloeatus Blackwell rolled his kit car chrysler in turn 3--that car had a 57 chevy frame with a 292 chevy----but then that's when sex was safe n racing was dangrous
