Inside Line Promotions - TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 18, 2018) - Zane Lawrence deemed his third consecutive year racing the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals as satisfactory.
Lawrence, who piloted his family-owned entry around the midget track inside the River Spirit Expo Center, kicked off the 32[sup]nd[/sup] edition of the prestigious event last Friday with a low pill draw, which started him on the outside of the front row for a heat race.

"We started out the night pretty good, but a driver error cost us a couple of positions in the heat race," he said. "We ended up sliding back to fourth, which put us in a C Main."
Lawrence finished where he started - second - in a C Main, claiming a transfer into a B Main. He lined up on the outside of the sixth row and worked his way up to eighth before being collected in an incident. That forced him to restart at the tail of the field and he ended 12[sup]th[/sup] .
"We were making some ground in the B Main before getting tangled up in a wreck," he said. "It got pretty clustered in front of me and I just had nowhere to go. We just took it as it was and got ready for the show on Saturday."
Lawrence's finish on Friday relegated him to a G Main on Saturday. He advanced from eighth to sixth place in the race, but missed a transfer by only two positions.
"I feel like I could have made the pass for fourth to get that last transfer spot to advance to the next main event, but I didn't want it to cost us or damage any equipment," he said. "It's just cool to race the event that happens once a year. There's no need to hurt your own equipment or someone else's to start in the back of the pack of another main event. Now we're ready to start focusing on this season and all of our winged sprint car races."
Lawrence's 2018 schedule consist of more than 20 races, several being with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. It is slated to start in March.
