Belleville, Il: Midget veteran Donnie Lehmann claimed victory in the 30 lap Gateway midget feature at Belle-Clair Speedway in Sunday night.

At the drop of the green, Mike Hess rocketed into the lead with Mario Marietta, Lehmann, Tim Siner, and Shane Hollingsworth in tow.

Hess continued to stretch his lead until a caution for Marietta and Hollingsworth bunched the field.

On the restart Lehmann and a hard charging Justin Allgaier began to put pressure on Hess. As the trio entered traffic on lap 25 Hess bobbled with a lapped car allowing both Lehmann and Allgaier to slip by.

Lehmann was then pressured Allgaier and Hess until the white flag when Allgaier had a run in with a lapped car dropping him two spots.

At the finish it was Lehmann over Hess with Tim Siner, Justin Allgaier and Steve Knepper rounding out the top five.

Dereck King started seventh and topped a quality field in the 20 lap 600cc micro sprint feature. A fierce battle for the lead raged on for the entire event between Casey Barnhouse, King, Tony Roney and Tyler Robbins.

King made a late race pass of Barnhouse to claim victory. Barnhouse held on for second, followed by 16th starting Tyler Robbins. Tony Roney and Greg Dillion rounded out the top five.

The next Gateway midget and micro sprint event at Belle-Clair is Sunday July 10.
