Long Takes Win at The Midway/Hudson Tops Mods In Feature

Lebanon,Mo.-The Midway Speedway was finally able to get its second night of racing in before another packed house as over 80 cars checked into the pits for Friday Night racing action.

In the LateModel Division,Clint Long jumped out to the early lead with youngster Nathan Gold hot on his bumper.Long began to check out from the field on lap 4 as the battle for second was hot and heavy as Barney Bauerfiend began to challange Gold.With Long 3-wheeling it on the frontstetch,Will Vaught began his march from the last row and started making a charge to the front.On lap 9, Bauerfiend moved into second place and Vaught was picking off the field and challanging Gold for third and then moved into second after a 4 lap battle with Bauerfiend.With Long setting a fast pace,Vaught set his sights on the leader and was coming fast.As lap 19 hit the board,Vaught had closed to about 10 car lengths,but Long kept his Rocket Chassis on the straight and gathered the win followed by a fast moving Vaught,Bauerfiend,Gold and Kris Jackson at the stripe.
In the Modified feature Eric Hudson took advantage of his outside front row starting spot and jumped out to a big lead early as Jeff Miller was starting to make a charge in the field while the battle for third place was side-by-side with Mike Riddle and Tony Fatino battling back and forth.As the feature went Green,White,Checkered,Hudson eased into the winners circle followed closely by Miller,Riddle,Fatino,and Darren Vest in the top 5.Early contender and former IMCA Nationals winner Wayne Graybeal fell by the wayside early and out of action as did Jim Piercey Jr. who did not start the feature after looking good in his heat race.
The closet feature of the evening was in the Winged Sprint Car feature as they made a surprise visit to the track tonight.On the start Joe Todd jumped to the early lead with Scott Wedelstadt in hot pursuit..As Joe Todd was starting to pull away from the field,Clint Todd began his charge to the front and moved into second place on lap 6 and began his charge to the front.Back in the pack,JP Compton and Eric Todd were making some moves and putting themselves into contention.On lap 9,Clint caught the leader Joe Todd and the war was on.Back and forth they battled for the lead as Clint took it on lap 12 as now Eric had passed Joe for second while Compton was coming fast.With Clint hugging the inside groove,Eric was slinging it on the outside was the duo was sidebyside with 1 lap to go.Heading down the backstretch,Eric made a bold move as Clint kept down low heading for the stripe.As Leo Morgan waved the checkered,Clint nugged ahead and claimed the win by less than 2 inches followed by Brother Eric,Compton,early leader Joe Todd,and John Rowland.
The SuperStocks had a wild time getting going but provided great action.On the opening lap Jason Otto jumped to the early lead but got it sideways coming off turn 4 as the field collected opening night winner Matt Pilant,Ben Newell,James Willis.On the restart,Tim Petty found himself in front with Rick Brown challanging and taking control on lap 3 as Ben Newell was coming fast.The yellow waved on lap 6 as Pilant had a rearend lock-up and eliminating him for the win.On the restart,Petty made a move on Brown and they battled as Otto was now coming fast.On lap 10,the veteran Newell weaved his way to the front going down low in turn 1 as Brown,Petty and Newell went 3 wide.Once in front,newell pulled away taking the victory as Brown,Tim Petty,Otto,and Willis completed the top 5.
FactoryStock Action had Jimmy Miller taking the early lead with Randy Berry coming fast.Back in the pack,Quintin Day and Chuck Pederson were quickly making charges to the front after starting back in row 6.On lap 3 Berry pulled to the inside and made the pass as John Gamble had moved into contention as he battled Bill Schoen,Miller and Tim Riffle for position. Once in front Berry was never headed but the battle was on for second as Gamble made a pass around Schoen for position and Pederson was coming quickly.With the white flag being displayed,Gamble and Pederson battled back and forth for second place as Schoen was nursing a smoking racer.As the checkered waved,Berry claimed the victroy followed by Gamble,Pederson Schoen and Miller at the stripe.
The Bombers saw friends and front row starters Robert White and Dusty Rhoades duel side and side all evening long in the 15 lap feature.This battle would see one lap being lead by Rhoades and then another by opening night winner White.As they see-sawed back and forth,Tyler Schoen who started deep in the field was coming fast chalanging Bud Pursley and Rich Allen for position.As the lead duo went back and forth,lapped traffic was ahead of them.Wityh one to go,White pulled to the inside only to have Rhoades move back around him going down the backstretch.Heading for the checkered,Rhoades was on top,but White snuck to the outside and nipped Rhoades by a bumper for the win.Following this lead duo were Tyler Schoen,Pursely,and Rich Allen to the stripe.
The Mini-stock feature was another nail bitter as Mike Piercey jumped to the early lead pacing the field.Bryan Deatherage was battling with Bobby Moore and Ike Moore for second while Reggie Jackson was closely behind them.
On lap 12 while running for second,Ike Moore and Deatherage made contact taking them out of contention for the win.As the yellow waved closing up the field Piercey was in charge with Bobby Moore second followed closely by Jackson.On the restart,Moore moved upstairs and got a run on leader Piercey as lap 14 went into the books.Going into turn 3,Piercey was staying low as Bobby Moore went upstairs and coming to the stripe,Moore pulled ahead by 2 cars in claiming the win followed closely by Piercey,Jackson,Ike Moore and John Wagner Jr.
The Crowd was treated to some beautiful weather and special giveaways including IMAX Tickets,Hats and dinners from ticket drawings as the final checkered fell at 11PM with just under a 3 hour racing program.
Racing again next Friday Night with the gates opening at 5,hotlaps at 7:25 and racing at 8PM.
