Longdale Speedway’s Two Nights of Late Model Action: A Fans Guide!

Longdale, Oklahoma – May 11, 2017 – It is that time of year again and what is arguably the biggest weekend in the Longdale/Canton Lake area as the third annual “Walleye Rodeo Weekend” at Longdale Speedway in Longdale, Oklahoma will take place on Friday and Saturday night, May 19-20, and for the second year in a row high-lighted by the MARS DIRTcar series.

Once again, the weekend will give drivers and fans plenty of entertainment both on and off the track.

Below is the itinerary for all attending this huge event that features the MARS DIRTcar late model series as well as the Top Gun series for the tracks regular weekly divisions of IMCA modifieds, IMCA sport mods, IMCA stock cars and pure stocks.

Friday (May 19): Bring a fishing pole and join the thousands who will be participating in the 49[sup]th[/sup] annual Walleye Rodeo Fishing tournament at nearby Canton Lake. When the evening comes around head out to the track where gates will open at 5:00 PM and racing slated for a 7:00 PM start time. A complete program featuring all the divisions mentioned above. Friday night grandstand general admission is $15 for adults; seniors and military $12; ages 12 and under admitted into the grandstands for free.

Saturday (May 20): Spend yet another day at Lake Canton and get ready for gates to once again open at the speedway 5:00 PM and racing at 7:00 PM. Saturday night grandstand admission is $15 for adults; senior and military $12; ages 12 and under admitted into the grandstands for free.

Lodging: Camping is allowed at the track and there are no hookups. The host motel for this and all Longdale Speedway events is Best Western Plus in nearby Fairview (fifteen minutes north of the track). You must mention you are with Longdale Speedway to get room discounts. Their number is (580) 227-2880.

Who to expect: Tony Jackson, Jr. is the four-time and defending MARS DIRTcar series champion and will lead a strong contingent of drivers to the Northwest Oklahoma big three-eighths mile oval. Austin Rettig, Justin Asplin, Payton Looney, Jeff Roth, Scott Crigler, Shannon Scott, Joe Godsey, Raymond Merrill and Dennis Earb are just a few of the touring regulars expected to compete.

A strong contingent of local area drivers is expected to give the touring regulars a run for their money, led by Enid’s defending Sooner Late Model Series champion Mark Harrison, Darin Busch, Damian Patocka and David Hennan.

MARS inaugural visit: 2016 was the first-ever visit by the MARS DIRTCar Super Late Model Series where Friday night’s race action saw “The Reaper” Ryan Gustin got the best of Asplin and a strong nineteen car field to take the victory. The Saturday night portion saw Terry Phillips and Jesse Stovall make an all-night drive from an Iowa rainout to participate with Phillips earning a thrilling $3000 victory over Rodney Sanders, Gustin and Jackson, Jr. in a feature event still talked about today.
