Wooster, OH --- Longtime Late Model car owner Robert “Bob” Mullen, 78, of Wooster, OH, passed away Monday June 16 at Wooster (OH) Community Hospital after a long battle with heart problems. In recent years Mullen was a fixture at Ohio and West Virginia dirt tracks supporting his son-in-law and grandson in their racing endeavors.
Mullen was a life-long racing enthusiast and for several decades was a dirt Late Model car owner. Among his drivers were Danny Bee, Jim Gentry, Dave Haven and Denny Mullen. Bob Mullen was also an avid supporter of his son-in-law, Blaine Aber, and his racing program. He was also a strong supporter and sponsor for many years of his grandson, dirt Late Model racer Matt Bee Aber.
“He loved all the racing people and loved all types of racing,” stated Blaine Aber. “He really loved racing and that was his life. He always had a racecar until he got too sick here in recent years. And he was always the first one at the race tracks and the last to leave. He was a real good father-in-law to me and it’ll be hard without him being around.”
Services will be Thursday at 3:00 PM at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, in Wooster. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born January 29, 1925 in Holmesville, OH and married Elizabeth M/ Bonadio on February 18, 1947. She survives.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded three brinze stars. He retired from Wooster Iron & Metal in 1988 after 37 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Judith Baker, Robert Mullen, Karen Aber and Denny Mullen; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
