Looney Claims Lebanon I-44 Mid-Season Title;Maggard Edges in Modified Win

Late Model Point leader Brad Looney finally found some luck on his side as he took command on lap 12 and held on despite a flat right rear tire to claim his third LateModel Feature win along with the Mid-Season Points title Sat night at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway.
As the starting grid of 17 came down to take the Green,Lebanon's Tony Jackson Jr jumped to the early lead from his pole position to lead the first couple of circiuts as Dustin Mooneyham came roraring from the outside to claim the top spot of lap 3.Dustin then was setting sail on the high side with Jackson in tow and 1988 Titlest Darrell Mooneyham was chalanging Jackson for the runner-up spot.Looney who arrived just before hotlaps after having motors Friday night at Bolivar Speedway and spent most of the day replacing a broken rocker-arm.Looney was motoring from his 5th row starting spot and gaining quickly.While Dustin was moving away from the battle of Jackson and Darrell Mooneyham,Looney broke into the top 5 after a hard battle with with Brandon McCormick and Larry Jones.As the top 4 pulled away,Looney shot to the low side and disposed of Mooneyham for 3rd and battled Jackson for the runner-up spot on lap 9.Points runner-up Dave Ware was starting his charge after starting 15th on the grid.After a quick caution for Darrin Bartons Spin,Looney moved to the highside of Jackson and set his sights on the younged Mooneyham.With Dustin staying on the highside,Looney shot to the bottom of the track and made the pass as early leader Jackson and Darrell Mooneyham continued there battle for third.Quick moving Will Ince pulled in after moving into the top 6.While Looney set a blistering pace,Jackson and Dustin began a hard fought battle for second in the closing laps with Jackson pulling off the pass on lap 20 and began to close on the leader.As Looney took the white flag,Jackson closed up more as Looney had a right-rear tire going down while behind this battle was the fight for third between the Father and Son Mooneyham duo and Dave Ware.As the checkered flew,Looney gathered hid third feature of the season followed closely by Jackson,Dustin Mooneyham,Ware and Darrell Mooneyham.
The Mighty Modifieds Took the green with point leader Erik Magard setting the pace and Eric Hudson along side him.As they started,Jamie Ragland shot from his second row outside spot and surprised everyone jumping into the lead.Staying on the high-side,Ragland was setting a blistering pace with point leader Maggard on his bumper while last weeks winner Eric Lampe was was in a hot battle with Terry Kirk,Bill Gilliam,and Jason Meadors.As the race wore on,Maggard decided to try the low side with Ragland still running up high.Veteran modified shoe Jeff Cutshaw was making his presence known after starting 14 on the grid and quickly moved into the top 5 by lap 15.As the stayed green and clean,Maggard pulled to slide jobs in turns 1&2 with Ragland countering both and moved back around to take control while Lampe,Cutshaw,Meadors,Gilliam,and Kirk were fighting hard for third place honors.On lap 22,the leaders were into lapped traffic and Maggard tried another slide job in turn 3 with Ragland again pulling around.As they ran for the white flag,Maggard shot for the final time to the top and Ragland went down low with the traffic in front of the leaders.Going for the checkered,Maggard's bold move paid off as Ragland got pinned in traffic.At the line,it was Maggard claiming the win and Mid-Season title followed closely by Ragland,Cutshaw coming the the 7th row,Lampe,and Gilliam at the stripe.
The Bombers again thrilled the crowd as Point leader Gary Klossner jumped from his front row starting spot to take control as 13 year old Micheal Maggard followed closely.Point contender Craig Lonning spun to the infield as the back part of the pack went spinning all around on lap 2.On the restart,Klossner kept it pointed straight as Rodney Jones was making his charge along with Brandon Knutdson and Trent Harrison. The yellow would wave on lap 4 as Jeff Davenport got caught up in a spin and Dusty Rhoades and Jones were also involved.On the restart,Mike Piercy had charged from 22nd starting spot and had now worked into the top10 along with John McGinnis.As the laps ticked off,Piercy had established he was the fastest car on the track as Klossner and Maggard were batling lapped traffic.In the closing stages,Maggard tried several times to move around Klossner,but Gary kept his Ford going straight to claim his 4 win out of the last 5 races.Following the lead duo to the line were Harrison,Knudtson,and Piercy at the stripe.
Point leader Quintin Day took advantage of the leaders mishap as Darrin Crisler and Burl Woods tangled on lap 13 taking both the lead cars to the pits for major damage.Day would then have to wait again as on the restart Dennis Jones and Jordan Holloway tangled on the frontstretch eliminating both of them.On the final restart,Day held off a late charge from Cookie Blevins to capture his second win of the season followed closely by Blevins,Ward Fredrick Jr,Steve Schultz,and Jason Reckker.
Point leader Mike Joplin cruised to the win in the SuperStock class leading all 15 laps as Matt Pilant and Reggie Jackson put on the best battle for second spot.Following them to the line were Paul Moore,and Shawn Danuser.
Robert Schoefield took control from early leader Lonnie Muhlbauer on alp 3 to record his second victory of the season.Karl Jones was closing fast as the flag flew in second spot followed by early leader Muhlbauer,Don Lacey,and Bill Lackey.
Close to 100 cars checked into the pits fro the Mid-season Championships action as next week Quality Heating and Cooling will present the 4th of July Celebration with 1500 to win the LateModel feature and a fireworks display at the intermission break.Gates will open at 5 with hotlaps starting at 7 and racing at 7:30 sharp
