Low Fan Count?

The Thread Killer
Dirt on Dirt says they were surprised by the low fan count at I-55 Saturday. I have to say at 5pm the place looked pretty empty for a one day $20,000 to win show. As a fan, if we want these big shows, we have to support them. I know later in the evening it was a decent turnout but i figured it would be standing room only. Especially after the rainout of WoO race. Bottom line, it was a great show, just surprised by the smaller numbers. IMO What do you think?

If you want a $20,000 to win show on one day with that caliber of drivers, $35 will be the standard...

They could have spread it out over two days and those same people complaining over $35 would have have paid $15 to get in Friday and $25 to get in Saturday ($40 total) and not said a word..

Hey im not complaining. I was literally one of the first 50 people there saturday. Original post ASKS what we thought was the reason for low fan count. That 35$ fee kept at least a dozen people i know from going.

The two week notice may be some part of it. Remember this was a rain date. The world of outlaw race was not cancelled till thursday morning. I am sure there were some peole that could not redo their schedules. Thought the crowd was decent, didnt expect a outlaw sprint car crowd but a little bigger than they had. As far as the weather goes,i get tired so tired of people who say they are fans but only go to the races on what they think are ideal weather conditions. Every day cannot be 72 degrees with a low of 70 degrees. These peope are the true definition of fare weather fans. The weather was not bad at all. Not sure of a true answer, just hope the croed was big enough to get this race again next year!?!.

IMO, it was the short notice and temps. The 2-week notice and cooler temps are fine for most of us, but have to remember we are the die hards! The question really speaks to why the more casual late model fan didn't show.

Tax Time. Second weekend of the month for those paid twice monthly. Historically its always a slower week for sales for us. Plus the cool weaather.

How was the crowd at Paducha?

In my opinion the crowd was much better at Paducah, but that could be due to the difference in the stands. Also it seemed weird but the "atmosphere" was a lot better at Paducah.

Been going to pevely a long time. They lost some when they quit running dashs, and they lost some over the stopping of AB products. Dont try tell me any different, i know better. jmo.

They are going to be losing more cuz they dont have Pepsi there either now. The Dr. Pepper products they have now really are bad!

You people kill me... lol..

The last thing I think about when I'm heading to the races is what kind of soda or beer they serve.. I'm going for the races!!

I guess you all can sit at home and have your favorite beverage while I'm enjoying THE BEST show on dirt in this area!!

I agree. When highland started hornet class (which I really don't enjoy), stopped serving draft beer and prices rose. Guess what..... I still went every weekend I could because I'm there for the racing not the concessions. As far as weather, I was at the track in 42degrees and loving it. Call me diehard or whatever but some people just aren't as "die hard" as the rest of us. I was simply stoked to get to the track for the first time and smell those fumes and hear the thunder of the motors.

I think you need to make the distinction between us saying why we think attendance might be down and us complaning abt these things. Everybody on here is a real fan and go for the right reason, racing. The big crowds have alot of part-timer/fair-weather fans. again, jmo.

You are so right.

I made the drive down from Chatham Saturday night. It was a little on the chilly side once the sun went down. Also, I think with the spring being so late in arriving, the more casual fan found something else to do on a sunny day. I thought the crowd was decent but not great. Don't know what the breakeven point on attendance was to make it a success. If it comes back next year, I know I'll be there. The field was the caliber that you only see a few times during a season and Pevely has put on a good show every time I've been there.

I didn't think $35 dollars was bad for the caliber of cars that were there. It was like a world 100 lineup for the feature. Plus it was only $5 dollars more than a world of outlaw show.

i totaly agree they did loose some people when they stoped the dash'es and if they don't believe it try having dash'es and see how much the crowd increases!!!
