Sunset Hills Teen Loyet Wins First Major Midget Championship
MILLSTADT, Ill. (Oct. 7, 2007) – Brad Loyet (Sunset Hills, Mo.) locked up his first O’Reilly POWRi National Midget championship and first major Midget championship overall Saturday night by winning the “Charlene Meents Memorial” at Belle-Claire Speedway (Belleville, Ill.), dethroning 2006 champion Brad Kuhn (Avon, Ind.) in a career-best season.
For Loyet, it was his series-leading fifth victory of the season and third race victory of 2007 at Belle-Claire in five starts. He led twice for 20 laps, and was never challenged as he won the championship with Sunday night’s “Bob Wente Classic” at Tri-City Speedway (Pontoon Beach, Ill.) still on the weekend’s card. While Loyet flipped out of action at Tri-City, fellow Midget star Jerry Coons Jr. (Tucson, Ariz.) ended one of the most competitive POWRi seasons with a hard-fought victory.
Coons became the 12th different feature winner in 21 races with the Tri-City triumph.

Loyet Takes Midget Crown at Belle-Claire
Brad Loyet blasted past Thomas Meseraull for the final time on Lap 15 of 30 Saturday night at Belle-Claire Speedway, taking charge with an outside pass in Turn 4 and cruising to victory in the No. 05 Loyet Motorsports Esslinger/Spike.
Loyet, who led twice for 20 laps, led the opening four laps of the caution-filled race, inheriting the point from polesitter Derek Hagar after Hagar flipped on the backstretch. Meseraull took over on Lap 5 and led the next 10 circuits before Loyet returned to the point and ran away for his fifth victory of 2007 on the tacky track.
The feature win secured Loyet’s driver title and gave Loyet Motorsports the car owner crown.
Meseraull finished second, ahead of Mike Hess, Hunter Schuerenberg and Steve Knepper, who was competing in his final full season of racing. Justin Allgaier, who frequents the ARCA ReMax Series and competed Friday at Talladega Superspeedway, finished sixth. Heat wins went to Loyet, Hagar, Hess, Greg Lueckert and Korey Weyant.
