Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at North Alabama and Magnolia Motor This Weekend; Bloomquist Contin

CORONA, CA (July 9, 2009) - After logging several miles this past Fourth of July Weekend, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series comes to Alabama and Mississippi this weekend for a pair of sanctioned events. On Friday Night, July 10th North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL will be the site for the "Heart of Dixie 40" paying $7,000 to win. Saturday Night, July 11th will mark the first trip for the LOLMDS to Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS for the "Clash at the Mag" paying $10,000 to win.

With 23 races in the books this season, there have been 18 different winners on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Tour. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN is still atop the Lucas Oil Series Championship Points Standings heading to North Alabama and Magnolia Motor Speedway this weekend. Even though he has not won a series event thus far in the season; he leads Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA by 285 points. Bloomquist is the all-time leading winner in LOLMDS history with 16 wins; but his consistent performances this year have him leading the points with 20 races remaining.

McDowell is the latest series winner; this past Saturday Night at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN; in the Clint Bowyer owned Warrior Race Cars entry. Bowyer won the night before in the Nationwide Series Race at Daytona. The team welcomes new sponsors General Mills and Dollar General Stores to the 17M Dirt Late Model Team.

Trailing Bloomquist and McDowell in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points Standings is 2009 Eldora Dirt Late Model Dream Winner Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN; 2009 Colossal 100 Winner Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; and winner of the LOMDS event at Fayetteville Motor Speedway, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC.

The remainder of the top ten include Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN; Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN; Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY; and Eric Jacobsen of Seacliffe Beach, CA. There is a tie for tenth in points between John Blankenship of Williamson, WV and Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI.

John Blankenship leads the Quarter Master "Rookie of the Year" points over David Breazeale of Four Corners, MS and Michael Walker of Franklin, TN.

The tire rule will be the same at both tracks; Hoosier 1300 or any compound harder and American Racer SD44 or any compound harder; tires must Punch 40.

It will be the fourth appearance at North Alabama Speedway for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. In the three previous events at the Jeff Greer promoted facility, winners include Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN; Billy Drake of Bloomington, IL; and last year Hall of Famer Freddy Smith of Seymour, TN notched his 784th career win with his first Lucas Oil Series victory at North Alabama. The event at the Johnny Stokes promoted Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will mark the 50th different race track the series has run at since its inception. Also, the High-Definition cameras of SPEED Channel will be on hand to tape the event which will be shown on a date and time to be announced in the future.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has added two events to its remaining 2009 schedule. The series will be sanctioning the "Scorcher" at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN on Wednesday, August 19th and Thursday, August 20th. There will be a complete show each night for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with PRC Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and a $10,000 to win feature event each night. This will precede the rain-out make-up "Toyota of Knoxville 75" at the Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN an event postponed by rain this past Sunday Night. The race at Tazewell on Friday Night, August 21st will pay $10,000 to win and give a driver a chance to win $30,000 over three nights of racing.
