Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Gears Up for Trip to Mountaineer State July 22 & 23

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series rolls into the Mountaineer State of West Virginia for back to back shows this Friday and Saturday, July 22 and 23.



On Friday Night the series heads for the first time to the Elkins Speedway in Elkins, West Virginia for the "RH Armstrong Memorial Race" and on Saturday Night the series goes to the Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia for the 18th Annual "Earl Hill Memorial Race." At both race tracks there will be a complete show for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with Oval Craft Racing Aluminum Designs Time Trials, VP Fuels Makin' Power Heat Races, Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and PPM Racing Products B-Main with both tracks hosting 50 lap main events paying $7,000 to win and $500 to start.



After 20 events the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has seen 12 different winners with Rick Eckert of York, PA the latest scoring the win at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, Virginia this past Saturday Night, July 16. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN continues to lead the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in total points and victories. O'Neal has amassed seven main event wins in '05 and 3900 points to date. Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH has moved into second place in the points now followed by Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Matt Miller of Waterville, OH and Scott James of Lawrenceburg, IN. The rest of the top in the current standings are Freddy Smith of Seymour, TN, Tim Dohm of Cross Lanes, WV, Terry English of Benton, KY, Brady Smith of Solon Springs, WI and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA.



As mentioned O'Neal leads the win parade with seven trips to victory lane with Moran and English both having two wins. Other drivers who have won on the series tour in '05 include: Tim McCreadie, Steve Shaver, Steve Francis, Jackie Boggs, Scott James, Jimmy Mars, Matt Miller, Brian Birkhofer and Rick Eckert.



In the race for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series "Rookie of the Year" chase Scott James holds the advantage over Tim Dohm and Brady Smith.



Elkins Speedway is a 3/8ths mile semi-banked track located in Elkins, WV. For directtions to the track it is located 7.1 miles north of U.S. 33 in Elkins on U.S. 219 (near Kerens). Tyler County Speedway is a 1/4 mile high banked dirt track located in Middlebourne, WV. The track is located 23.2 miles north of U.S. Highway 50 on State Road 18 at the fairgrounds.
