CORONA, CA (August 17, 2009) - A very busy week of racing in Tennessee awaits the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers with visits to Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN and Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN.

It all starts off on Tuesday Night, August 18th with an open practice session. Racing action gets underway for the Sixth Annual Scorcher 100 - "A Salute to America's Coal Miners!" on Wednesday Night, August 19th at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN with PRC Time Trials and Heat Races. Thursday Night, August 20th will begin with B-Mains and the 100-lap "Scorcher 100" paying $20,000 to win. It will be the first time the event has been sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

On Thursday Night following the B-Mains will be the six-lap "Dash for Coal" for Wednesday Night's six heat race winners. The "Dash for Coal" pays $2,000 to win, while second place receives $1,000 with the event paying $200 to start.

On Friday Night, August 21st the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will come to Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN for the "Toyota of Knoxville 75". The single-day show will consist of PRC Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and the 75-lap $10,000 to win main event. The event was originally scheduled for July 5th, but was rained out. Rain checks from July 5th will be honored for this race.

East Tennessee resident Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN continues in search for his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Championship with two events close to his home-base this week, he looks to boost his 225-pont lead over 4-time series champion Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. Bloomquist and Pearson are tied for the all-time lead in wins in series history with 16 each. Bloomquist, who has 481 career victories, has yet to win an LOLMDS event in 2009, but his consistent finishes have him atop the points.

The big winner at Batesville (AR) Motor Speedway this past weekend, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN who took home the big trophy and $40,000 for winning the 17th Annual COMP Cams "Topless 100" currently resides in third place in the championship points standings, just five points behind Pearson. Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA, the LOLMDS winner at Bulls Gap back in July is fourth in points followed by Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN.

The remainder of the top ten heading to "The Gap" and "The Taz" are Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN; Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY; Eric Jacobsen of Seacliffe Beach, CA; and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV.

Blankenship leads the "Quarter Master" Rookie of the Year point's standings over David Breazeale of Four Corners, MS and Michael Walker of Franklin, TN.

With 31 races in the book for the 2009 season the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has ten remaining events on its schedule. Each race from now on will be vital in determining the 2009 series championship, which is worth $75,000 this year. There have been 19 different winners this year, with 14 drivers maintaining perfect attendance and the drivers' roster this year includes 482 racers who have entered competition with the series at least once this year.

The tire rule for both Volunteer and Tazewell Speedway will be the same with the Hoosier - 1300 or any compound harder, 1300 must punch a minimum of 40. Also the American Racer - SD44 or any compound harder, SD44 must punch a minimum of 40.

With a large crowd expected for both Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events this week, fans are urged to get to the tracks as soon as possible as the crowds will be enhanced by the activities at nearby Bristol Motor Speedway with the Cup race on Saturday Night.
