M.A.R.S. SQUARES OFF AGAINST U.M.P. at TRI-CITY

Batesville, AR (April 26th, 2006) The stars and cars of the Mid America Racing Series will roar back into action this Sunday, April 30th as they challenge the U.M.P. Series for the second time in 2006.

Current point’s leader, Wendell Wallace from Batesville, Arkansas leads the M.A.R.S. competitors into battle this weekend. Bill Frye has won two events in a row with the M.A.R.S. tour and has climbed into the second position in points. Terry Phillips ( Missouri), Steve Rushin ( Missouri), and Jeff Taylor ( Arkansas) round out the top five in series’ points after the first five events of 2006. Other M.A.R.S. competitors expected for this weekend include Billy James ( Missouri), Will Vaught ( Missouri), Jeff Floyd ( Arkansas), Jordan Jones ( Arkansas), Joey Mack ( Missouri), Justin Well ( Missouri), Jack Sullivan ( Arkansas), Brandon McCormick ( Missouri), and Dane Dacus ( Missouri).

The U.M.P. Tour is expected to have many of their top guns on hand including Randy Korte ( Illinois), Shannon Babb ( Illinois), Billy Moyer ( Arkansas), Brian Shirley ( Illinois), Kevin Weaver ( Illinois), Darren Miller ( Illinois), Steve Sheppard ( Illinois), Mark Faust ( Illinois), Ed Dixon ( Missouri), Brian Collins ( Missouri), Frank Heckenast, Jr. ( Illinois), Michael Kloos ( Illinois), Dennis Erb Jr. ( Illinois), and Jayme Zidar ( Illinois).

This will be the third of nine M.A.R.S./U.M.P. Challenge events in 2006. Randy Korte and Bill Frye each claimed wins in the first challenge events.

The event will be held on the ½ mile, dirt oval at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois on Sunday, April 30th. With the main event going 40 circuits around the giant oval. Tri-City Speedway is located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO in Pontoon Beach, IL. Take exit 4 off I-270 and go ½ mile south on SR 203.

UMP Modifieds, UMP Sportsman, Street Stocks and Factory Stocks will all also be in competition as they will compete on the 1/4 mile oval at Tri-City Speedway. General Admission will be $20 and kids 6-12 will be $10. Kids 5 and under will be free. Pit passes are $30 for all ages.

Pit gates will open at noon and the grandstand gates will open at 4:00pm. Hotlaps will get under way at 5:15 pm and racing begins at 6:00pm. There will also be an autograph session from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm.
