Macon – Macon Speedway fans were in for a treat Saturday night as the POWRi Midgets and Micros came to town. Some of the best open wheel drivers flocked to Macon to continue there season long run at a series championship. The BARBECK Communications Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Hornets also put another round of thrilling feature races in the books.

One year after receiving chemo therapy, Brett Anderson came back to win the POWRi Midget race at Macon Speedway Saturday night. Anderson passed for the lead with just a few laps left in the race. Eric Edwards won the POWRi Micro Series race without much competition.

“This is definitely the best start to a season we’ve ever had.” Edwards said.

Argenta’s Danny Smith won his first career BARBECK Communications Modified feature race at Macon Speedway. Smith, a full time driver at the track for ten years, found himself in third place behind Brad Crosby and Jeremy Nichols. “I was just biding my time. They were setting each other up.” Smith said. As the white flag waved, Smith found some speed on the outside and passed both Nichols and Crosby, who were in a dogfight of their own throughout the race.

Larry Russell Jr. broke his losing streak by taking the checkered flag in the Street Stock feature race. Second place finisher Steve Ewing went too high into the final turn and Russell took advantage by passing underneath.
Joe Reed moved his winning streak up to three with another Pro Hornet feature win. The amateur hornet win went to Zach Dodd.
