Lebanon,Mo.-Before a capacity crowd on the holiday weekend,102 race teams checked into the LebanonMidwaySpeedway Friday Night with some excellent racing and close finishes highlighting the evening.
SuperStock feature time saw "The Gentle Giant" JC Newell grab the lead on lap one and stretch it out over the field as point leader Tony Jackson Jr started back in 11th.With Newell looking for his first ever win on the Midway, the battle for second was fast with Donnie Gennings,Jody Saultz and Jackson battling back and forth. On lap 12,Jackson caught Newell in traffic and moved around Newell in turn 3 to grab the lead and record his 7th feature win of the season as Newell,Gennings,Saultz and Joe Miller Completed the top 5.
The Modifieds took to the Midway 21 strong and as the green flew, point leader Wayne Graybeal jumped to the early lead with Jamie Ragland battling. With Graybeal running low and Ragland High, the racing was door to door as Brandon Maggard, and Eric Hudson were running right behind them.Last weeks winner Erik Maggard was charging from 11th.A lap 3 caution for Ryan Stacye closed-up the field and Graybeal grabbed the lead again on the start.Back in the pack,Donnie Fellers was coming through quickly along with Kevin Halderman and Tony Fatino_On lap 8,Ragland took over the lead to only see Graybeal grab control back 2 laps later. This see-saw battle allowed Hudson and Maggard to close-up and put themselves on the leader back bumpers with 2 packs running side by side. After a couple of cautions bunched everyone-up,Graybeal would pace the field as the battle was on again as now Erik Maggard jumped into second as Hudson moved through to 3rd spot. This 4 car battle including Ragland would keep everyone standing as Graybeal and Maggard ran side by side on two different grooves. On lap 23,Graybeal lead the field down on a restart with Maggard moving to the top again as Hudson made a 3 wide move out of turn 2 with Ragland looking for running room.As Graybeal took the white flag,Erik Maggard moved to the very top of the track as the battle was on as Hudson again challanged for the lead.Coming for the checkered,Maggard got a bite on the highside and Graybeal was staying down low as the duo were side-by-side out of turn 4.Coming to the stripe,Maggard nosed ahead nipping Graybeal at the line by half a car length followed by Hudson,Ragland and Brandon Maggard in the top 5.
The Winged Sprints saw "The Black Bandit" Steve Lawrence jump to the early lead and was looking to become the 6 different sprint winner this season, but behind him was 2 time winner Clint Todd and JP Compton. The long green run would see great wheel to wheel action as Lawrence continued to lead with Compton running the high-sdie battling for the lead as Eric Todd and last weeks winner John Rowland would join the race up front. On lap 13,Clint Todd made a move down low and then up high to grab the top spot as Eric also went upstairs. With Clint in fornt,Compton and Rowland were battling for position along with Eric for second as Lawrence began to fade alittle.A lap 17 caution for Doug Rose's stalled car bunched everyone up as Clint was driving solid on the bottom. On the final lap, brother Eric moved upstairs to try the lead, but Clint shut the door and grabbed his 3rd win of the season followed very closely by Eric,Compton,Rowland and point leader Joe Todd at the stripe.
The Factory Feature saw Todd Cook jump out to the lead and never looked back as point leader Randy Berry battled hard throughout the 15 lap affair with Ron Myers running a solid third. When the checkere flew,Cook won the feature, but a technical infraction would give Berry his first win of the season followed by Myers,Travis Hill,Glen Dismang and Robert Rydeen at the stripe.
The Bombers came out 22 strong as Dusty Rhoads grabbed the lead from the start with Mike Piercey in tow as Scott Atkinson and Darrin Crisler following.Crisler's strong first time run ended with a spin and restarted at the rear of the field. On the restart,Rhoads again pulled away with Atkinson and Piercey battling for second while the pack of Justin Stoufer,Bill Roberts and Aaron York were battling for position.Rhoads would lead all 15 laps as Piercey finished second followed by Atkinson,Stoufer, and York at the stripe as 14 of the 22 starters finished on the lead lap.
The Mini-Stock feature was a great finish as Leon Fellers grabbed the early lead with Tony Moore on his bumper. On la 5,Moore grabbed the lead, but Fellers grabbed it back 2 laps later. In the pack,Eric Clay and point leader Dave williams were making a charge to the front while Leon was looking for his first win of the season. On lap 13,Clay grabs the lead as Williams moved to the low side and made a 3 wide battle.Heading for the white flag,Clay grabbed the top spot with Williams moving down low.Coming to the stripe,Williams powered out of turn 4 and nipped Clay to grab his 6th feature win of the season followed by Clay, early leader Fellers,Chuck Kidwell and Travis Pruitt.
