Fans filed into Central Missouri Speedway on a hot, humid night looking to see some exciting, wheel to wheel racing action and that is just what they saw as the Jayhawk Racing Journal/Rainbow Center Race Night rolled onto the track.

Cameron's Marc Dotson held off a field that was tough as nails as the driver of the 85d held off a hard charging Dave Meyer to take home his second win in a row in the Mighty Modified division. The field came under Herschel Thompson's green flag and Dotson wasted no time in moving to the front from his inside row two starting position and overtook polesitter Joe Bradshaw for the top spot before the end of lap one. With Dotson out front Mike Folk, who made the trip in from Iola, KS, was beginning to apply heave pressure to the leader until a flat left front tire sent him pitside. Behind the leader the battle was heating up for the second spot as Dave Meyer and Joe Bradshaw began to battle side by side and remained that way for several laps until Meyer was finally able to get the bite he needed off the high side to take over the position. The caution flag waved on lap fourteen for the slowing machine of Ed Griggs that bunched the field up, but Dotson once again raced out front opening a several car length lead over Meyer who was attempting to take home the Budweiser Progressive $. Dotson proved to have everything working right as he was able to hold off Meyer over that final laps and take home his second win in a row at the central Missouri speedplant. Meyer rolled home second with Terry Schultz moving up from his inside row five starting spot, Joe Bradshaw and Richard Layne filling out the top five. Earlier in the evening four heat races were contested with Joe Bradshaw, Mike Folk, Marc Dotson, and Ed Griggs taking home the wins. Point leader Gary Blackburn had handling problems in his heat race and took the B Feature win to secure his spot in the big show.

Kevin Coyne has made a habit of taking home the top spot in the Limited Late Model division from the outset of the 2004 campaign and he showed Saturday night that he was still the top dog as he raced to the front and was never seriously challenged for the win. Coyne jumped from his pole position starting spot to take command of the field with Lance Elwell in tow and hoping to take over the top spot. Coyne distanced himself from Elwell and had opened a sizeable advantage until a stopped car brought out the caution on lap thirteen to slow the field. On the restart Coyne quickly opened up his lead again and held on for the final two laps for yet another win. Elwell held off Mike Brockert for second with Jeff Jackson Jr. and Owen Evinginer coming across the line to round out the top five at the finish. Heat race victories went to Kevin Coyne and Lance Elwell to set up the A feature.

The Street Stock feature saw Ashland, MO's Dave Bentlage make his third trip in this season and take home his second victory. The green flag dropped and the field raced into turn one with John Brooks moving to the front with Bentlage and Bob King hot on his heels. The field was slowed on lap six as the mount of Bob King had trouble seeing him flip on the front stretch to bring out the caution. King emerged unscathed, but his run was done for the evening. Bentlage quickly made of move for the top spot on the inside, but Brooks came back on the high side to battle back for his spot. Over the next several laps the duo of Bentlage and Brooks worked the entire track running side by side with neither able to gain the advantage over the other. Late in the tenth lap saw the undoing of Brooks' run at the front as a problem developed in his machine causing him to slide up and over the top of the track in turns three and four. Brooks was able to drive his machine off, but retired to the pit area handing sole possession of the lead over to Bentlage. With five laps remaining Bentlage now found himself attempting to hold off Marc Carter who had quietly moved up to second. Carter would pull out all the stops to make the pass, but Bentlage was able to fend him off as his went on to the win. Following Bentlage and Carter across the line were Bryant Moyer, Tammy Korff and Dan Colhour to bring home the top five. Earlier Bob King, John Brooks, and Dave Bentlage were able to hold on for heat race wins.
