Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound,WI thrilled the large crowd on hand Friday at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond,WI racing from the 18th starting position to the win in the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series/Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned opening night of the “6th Annual Masters” event. Driving the Stacker2®/Heeg Well Drilling/Deppe Enterprises No. 28M Jimmy Mars Racing MasterSbilt Race Cars/Pro Power Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Mars used the low groove of the high-banked 3/8ths mile to work his way to the front passing race long leader Brian Birkhofer with 10 laps remaining in the 50 lap main event pocketing the $10,000 top prize.
“I was pretty well P.O.’d after my heat race with the way the car was working but my brother Chris and the rest of the guys on the crew and myself put our heads together and made some massive changes before the main. The track was just super and the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tires worked like a champ. Brian was fast but he got caught up with some of the lapped car which allowed us to sneak by him on the low side. I can’t say enough about Stacker2®, Goodyear and all of the series sponsors. This is a great series to race with and the fans got to see what this Goodyear program is all about. There were passes all over the racetrack and some great position battles throughout the race. I hope the fans liked what they saw and will be back tomorrow night for the second segment of the ‘Masters’. It should be something to see. I’m not getting wound up for tomorrow night but getting this win tonight gives us a good shot of claiming the $5,000 bonus for having the best average finish over the two nights. But, tomorrow night is a new night and you never know what can happen.”
Birkhofer held on for second finishing nearly a second behind Mars with Shane Clanton third, Darren Miller fourth and 10th starting Brady Smith fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Ray Cook in sixth trailed by Earl Pearson Jr., 13th starting Donnie Moran, Jerry Redetzke and 15th starting Ashley Anderson.
Birkhofer and Cook brought the 29 car starting field to the green flag racing side by side on the opening lap until Birkhofer inched ahead of Cook at the end of the first lap with Matt Miller third, Clanton fourth and Pearson Jr. fifth. Miller shot past Cook for second the next go-round as Pearson Jr. notched Clanton. Mars had made his way into the top 10 by lap five as Birkhofer enjoyed a two car margin over M. Miller. The first of only two cautions in the event appeared on lap 10 when Billy Drake slowed to a stop with a broken control arm.
The double-file restart saw Pearson Jr. shoot past Cook for third while Darren Miller worked his way past Clanton for fifth while Mars shot into seventh. Cook worked his way back into third on lap 12 as Clanton reclaimed fifth from D. Miller. By lap 15 Pearson Jr. was now second but five laps later M. Miller was back into the runner-up spot with Mars now fourth. The intense action which saw three-wide and four-wide racing throughout the field slowed when Davey Johnson rolled to a stop with what he thought was a flat tire.
One lap after going back to green Mars was no third and by the halfway mark Mars was up to second and began to close on Birkhofer. Cook sat third with M. Miller fourth and Smith to fifth followed by Pearson Jr., Clanton, Moran, D.J. Troutman, and Russ Scheffler. With 20 laps to go Birkhofer’s lead was now down to two car lengths over Mars with Smith now third ahead Cook and Clanton. Birkhofer entered lapped traffic on lap 32 allowing Mars to close on Birkhofer. Lap 35 saw Mars, in the low groove, now pressuring Birkhofer for the lead.
Lap 39 saw Mars pull alongside of Birkhofer as the two raced in a virtual dead heat until Mars gained the upper-hand exiting turn four to grab the lead at lap 40. Mars continued to race in the low groove opening up a three car advantage on Birkhofer with five laps to go. Clanton was now third with Smith fourth and D. Miller fifth. As the laps wound down Mars worked the low groove to pass the lapped traffic giving him the room needed to score his third Stacker2® XDCS victory and fourth NXDCS victory of the year.

Driving the Stacker2®/Heeg Well Drilling/Deppe Enterprises No. 28M Jimmy Mars Racing MasterSbilt Race Cars/Pro Power Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Mars used the low groove of the high-banked 3/8ths mile to work his way to the front passing race long leader Brian Birkhofer with 10 laps remaining in the 50 lap main event pocketing the $10,000 top prize.
“I was pretty well P.O.’d after my heat race with the way the car was working but my brother Chris and the rest of the guys on the crew and myself put our heads together and made some massive changes before the main. The track was just super and the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tires worked like a champ. Brian was fast but he got caught up with some of the lapped car which allowed us to sneak by him on the low side. I can’t say enough about Stacker2®, Goodyear and all of the series sponsors. This is a great series to race with and the fans got to see what this Goodyear program is all about. There were passes all over the racetrack and some great position battles throughout the race. I hope the fans liked what they saw and will be back tomorrow night for the second segment of the ‘Masters’. It should be something to see. I’m not getting wound up for tomorrow night but getting this win tonight gives us a good shot of claiming the $5,000 bonus for having the best average finish over the two nights. But, tomorrow night is a new night and you never know what can happen.”
Birkhofer held on for second finishing nearly a second behind Mars with Shane Clanton third, Darren Miller fourth and 10th starting Brady Smith fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Ray Cook in sixth trailed by Earl Pearson Jr., 13th starting Donnie Moran, Jerry Redetzke and 15th starting Ashley Anderson.
Birkhofer and Cook brought the 29 car starting field to the green flag racing side by side on the opening lap until Birkhofer inched ahead of Cook at the end of the first lap with Matt Miller third, Clanton fourth and Pearson Jr. fifth. Miller shot past Cook for second the next go-round as Pearson Jr. notched Clanton. Mars had made his way into the top 10 by lap five as Birkhofer enjoyed a two car margin over M. Miller. The first of only two cautions in the event appeared on lap 10 when Billy Drake slowed to a stop with a broken control arm.
The double-file restart saw Pearson Jr. shoot past Cook for third while Darren Miller worked his way past Clanton for fifth while Mars shot into seventh. Cook worked his way back into third on lap 12 as Clanton reclaimed fifth from D. Miller. By lap 15 Pearson Jr. was now second but five laps later M. Miller was back into the runner-up spot with Mars now fourth. The intense action which saw three-wide and four-wide racing throughout the field slowed when Davey Johnson rolled to a stop with what he thought was a flat tire.
One lap after going back to green Mars was no third and by the halfway mark Mars was up to second and began to close on Birkhofer. Cook sat third with M. Miller fourth and Smith to fifth followed by Pearson Jr., Clanton, Moran, D.J. Troutman, and Russ Scheffler. With 20 laps to go Birkhofer’s lead was now down to two car lengths over Mars with Smith now third ahead Cook and Clanton. Birkhofer entered lapped traffic on lap 32 allowing Mars to close on Birkhofer. Lap 35 saw Mars, in the low groove, now pressuring Birkhofer for the lead.
Lap 39 saw Mars pull alongside of Birkhofer as the two raced in a virtual dead heat until Mars gained the upper-hand exiting turn four to grab the lead at lap 40. Mars continued to race in the low groove opening up a three car advantage on Birkhofer with five laps to go. Clanton was now third with Smith fourth and D. Miller fifth. As the laps wound down Mars worked the low groove to pass the lapped traffic giving him the room needed to score his third Stacker2® XDCS victory and fourth NXDCS victory of the year.
