Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (December 5, 2015) – The Askrens Trucking Holiday Hustle 100 kicked off Saturday atop the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval with track champion Matt Martinez and Wisconsin’s Justin Jacobson picking up wins to earn front row starting positions in Sunday’s $5,000-to-win Pure Stock vs. IMCA Stock Car 100-lapper.

While Martinez and Jacobson bested the Pure Stock ranks in the event run in the memory of Desiree Marie Goodwin, it was Mike Kilian and Steve Soboski earning front row starting positions for the $1,000-to-win 50-lapper for the Renegades vs. IMCA Hobby Stocks while Martinez also picked up a $500 victory in the 20-lap Autocross feature.

After Minnesota’s Andrew Altenburg bested the 33-car Arizona Differential Pure Stock vs. IMCA Stock Car field in qualifying, Martinez defended his home turf by winning the first 15-lap Shootout Qualifier from the front row outside ahead of fellow CSP regulars Chris McCurdy, Jr., and Zack Madrid while Jacobson took full advantage of the pole position to take the second Shootout win in front of George Fronsman and Colorado’s Aaron Spangler.

Chuck Thornton topped the 30-car Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades vs. IMCA Hobby Stock field in qualifying before Mike Kilian raced from sixth to win the first Shootout ahead of Jason Crowe and Joe Peterson with Steve Soboski then rallying from eighth to top the second Shootout in front of Tate Allen and John Romero.

The top ten in each Shootout from both the Pure Stock and Renegade ranks locked into Sunday’s main events with the top four from each starting straight up while fifth through tenth revert to their qualifying times. Eleventh on back in each Shootout go to a Last Chance qualifier on Sunday.

Martinez picked up another win by topping the first of two 20-lap Autocross events for the weekend. Martinez raced from third to top Saturday’s 20-lapper ahead of pole starter Marlowe Wrightsman and Justin Suhr.

The Askrens Trucking “Holiday Hustle 100” concludes with Sunday’s racing action going green at 1:00 p.m.
