Rumors

Rumor is Craig Roden is buying MCS.........?

I want to appologize for this rumor, I don't know how it got started, I think it was a joke. I haven't got the means or the brains to buy the track.
I am, however, very sad that it is shutting down. I feel sorry for Mel because I know that the track was his dream. There is not much worse than watching a man lose his dream. He put his heart and soul in that track.
I am also sad for the drivers and fans. I'm sure there are many families like mine who met the best of friends out there. Most of the people my family and I hang out with now are people we have met thru racing at MCS. I personally had the time of my life racing out there.
I hope the track re-opens because I do remember the days the pits were full and the bleachers were standing room only. I think the race track itself is awesome because of its uniqueness. It's NOT stop and go, paper clip, flat and slow, or so big that the cars spread way out and get boring. It IS, however a high banked, bull ring, wall all the way around, door to door, adrineline rush. IMO.
The track closing the gates leaves an emptiness in my heart like when a close friend or family member moves too far away to visit. I want to thank MCS for the good times my family and friends had there. We will miss you and hope the gates re-open.

I too have made some of our best friends there. And hate a man to lose his dream But I
seen it coming since 2006 when he dropped the Supers, sorry to say it has a lot to due with respect. He (mel) disrespected us Super Late owners and drivers (and my wife and I with a personal phone call I should add!!!!), with the Supers gone they just moved on down the line until everyone left. You Drop your headline class you turn into a 2nd class track, sorry its just the facts. When supers ran there people traveled 800miles to visit the place and you dont take advantage of it by not keeping a Summernational event or get an MLRA or MARS event maybe a Lucas or WOO? These people had a good future and blew it!!!

My wife helped run a top notch track back in the 90's and the weekly show you just broke even on, the big money shows make the big money, I'm talkin BIG MONEY like several hundred grand!!!! Mel was going to add stands and bring in those shows but weather it was Dell or the lawsuit I dont know? It still was someone making a decision or not taking a gamble. Instead they went backwards! No one in the other classes cared when they dropped the Supers now everyone finally gets it. If you dont then your ignorant on how this business works. Gundaker and Schrader are just a couple that do. Not saying that a good local track out in the country cant make it on secondary classes, they follow a different rule. MCS is along a major interstate and draw mainly from suburban St Louis areas. They are not like say the Tracks in Fulton or California Mo. where they regularly have good car counts and the stands filled, what else is there to do here in Fulton on a Friday or a Sunday in California Mo.? Drink and watch the grass grow is about it.

I have now stepped back and running a crate after running Supers at I-44 and finishing 3rd in points in 2007 and running at 10 or so different tracks in 2008, I put my son in a Bmod and we have run at MCS every week this year. The track itself is as good as ever, other than some deficiencies like light and sound it still is in great shape. I wish it a return, but with no Dell, maybe Mel would be ok to stay as a maintenance man but any more than that I'd be worried. Remember this place was featured in Speedway Illustrated as an up and coming bigtime speedway. It is in a good location to last for several decades without much interference from locals. Most understand the politics and greed that brought the lawsuit several years ago was a major factor in all of this. Its just sad to finally see it come to an end, even though we knew it was coming a long time ago.
Maybe this could be the new beginning?
If only in these bad financial times someone would step up and gamble on it.

And Good Luck?

This post took a lot to write, I hadn't commented on MCS since 2006 and really hadn't wanted to, I feel it was time.

My favorite moment had to have been the Summer Nationals at MCS. That was very neat seeing some big names ripping around the place. That and Boyer giving Mel a wild ride. Right now, alot of people are rubbed a little raw by the way things have gone, but I think everyone will miss the place if it doesn't open again.

i think everyone would agree with you craig about the friendships out there! i have met my truest friends out there! i used to write notes to different racers when i was little telling them good luck! now im a racer thanks to all of them! refund!!

I received my refund check today for the make up feature as promised. Thank you MCS.

I wish this would not be how the year ended but that is the way it goes sometimes. I really enjoyed running at the track, it is a great facility, it runs on Sat. and it is close to home. I would like to thank the Kinard family for letting us run our little 4 cyl cars. We were the slowest class out there but hopefully gave the crowd a good show.

Thanks again
Jack
